PaFrogThrower9 Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 You could always get a Bass Pro Shop tourney special or Bass Pro Shop graphite series rod. I have a few of them and they worked great till I upgraded my rods. Quote

I think it is a great rod for the application, but I just got into frog fishing last year. So I have no experience with other rods for it. I thought that 7ft is a good length since you can lower the rod tip and walk the frog without dipping your rod tip in the water. Also, I found that the Lightning Rod has a shorter butt end that kept it out of the way while walking the bait. The tip is just soft enough to launch the frogs, but allows for a good load up while setting the hook. I pulled a 4.5lber out of lillypads last year using the lightning rod and an Abu Silver Max. I'd definitely recommend it. Keep an eye out for a good deal though. I got mine off of a discount rack for $20. 1 Quote

I don't spend big money on frogs rods as I tend to abuse the crap out of them! 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 16, 2017 Global Moderator Posted May 16, 2017 I just picked up 2 7' 3" H/F Ethos Micro from Academy for $25 each, normally $80. I've had one for a few years and it's my favorite frog rod I've ever owned, couldn't pass up 2 more for that price. 1 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted May 16, 2017 Super User Posted May 16, 2017 The Lightning Rod Shock 7' MH has been my go to frog rod for about as long as they have been available. Great rod for this. I am almost ready to retire my originally purchased one that is probably 10 years old, and landed 1000's of bass. The grip is falling apart, and the end cap on the butt fell off last week. Not bad service for $39.99 rod at Walmart. I have others in reserve stock that I have picked up over the years when Walmart has had them on sale, some for as low as $5 each. 3 Quote

georgeyew Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 The Lightning Shock 7' MH is on sale at my local Walmart for $20. It might be the same at other locations too. It's worth checking. Quote

Hate the color of these rods, but you guys may talk me into one yet. Walmart Online currently has a 7' M spinning rod for $9. Quote
d-camarena Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Try it. Really is a great jig and frog rod. Youll get over the color quickly. I dont like the spinning ones. They have a moderate action Quote
