PaFrogThrower9 Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Been thinking alot lately of getting a new swim jig rod. I have a few already in mind, just having a hard time deciding. I'm looking at the Dobyns Fury fr734c, Duckett Ghost 7'3" in either Heavy or Medium Heavy, and the Lews American Hero 7' MH. Mainly gonna be throwing 3/8 swim jigs and occasionally worms. Quote
Super User NHBull Posted May 15, 2017 Super User Posted May 15, 2017 I don have either, but given the weight you will be throwing, I would not go Heavy.....Heck, a Med could work Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 I have a Dobyns Savvy 734 that I throw 3/8 to 1/2 oz jigs on. Works great. I think a Fury 734 would do the trick for you. In fact it is my all round rod. I throw everything from T-Rigs, to Jigs, to Frogs(light cover) on it. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted May 15, 2017 Super User Posted May 15, 2017 That 734 will cover almost anything in bass fishing. I highly recommend that rod. 1 Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted May 15, 2017 Super User Posted May 15, 2017 The Dobyns Fury 734 is a great rod for that purpose. I have one 7 foot rod I could throw jigs on but, prefer to use it more for texas rigged stuff. My primary rod for throwing jigs and especially swim jigs is a Powell Max 683CEF. That rod is a bit shorter, which makes it great around docks, laydowns and other structure. It is now available in a Powell Max3D and inferno series. I agree with the others stay in the MH fast category except for a Dobyns, they fish a half step lighter than advertised, go more by their lure rating. Quote
Super User webertime Posted May 15, 2017 Super User Posted May 15, 2017 What trailer? a 4.8 Keitech is .4oz. That 3/8oz jig and a trailer quickly gets close to 3/4-1 oz. I had a 734 Champion and it was too light for me to throw a swimjig of that size. My 735 Fury works, I am in love with the 7'2" Daiwa Tatula MHR for that sort of bait. Quote

Other then that it would be a Zoom Z-Craw Jr. or a Paca Chunk. I don't think I've ever used a paddle tail as a trailer yet....lol. I already have a FR735C which is my frog rod. Maybe add another....lol. Quote
