Frog Rod?

I currently have a 7'0" XH Carrot Stix Wild Wild Black as my frog rod. It is rated for 1/2 - 2 oz lures. Is it too heavy a power for frogs and 50 lb braid?

I am using a SB rod rated for 2 ounces and so far so good, but the frogging season really hasn kicked off yet

I use a Veritas 7'6" MH frog series. Great rod for launching frogs, although a bit on the long side for skipping frogs, even for a guy like me who's 6'.

Depends if it allows you to walk the frog well or not. I personally would not want an XH as it will tend to not have enough tip to walk a frog well. Also prefer a little longer rod, something in the 7'3"-7'6" range. That helps you to get longer casts, as well as better hookups at a full cast and winching the fish out, or helping to keep it on top with the extra length.

Most so-called frog rods I've tried are great at throwing and retrieving frogs, but stink at setting the hook and pulling fish from cover.  I use a 7 to 7-6 rod that's XH/F rating.  Often that means a flipping stick.

I am particular about my frog rods.

 

I like a MH to H power, and I like a Fast tip.

 

My best hooksets using a frog are on my dobyns savvy 734. Rod loads up real nice and I don't have to kill myself on hooksets. Drives the hooks real good into the fish. I use a Tatula Frog rod that is really nice for heavier cover as it is a heavier power than the savvy. Hooksets are good on it, but my ratio still isn't as high as on the 734.

 

I had a Carbonlite prior to the Tatula that I couldn't manage to get a hook into a fish if my life depended on it. If I am not mistaken that was a Heavy XF. Didn't load up at all, it just felt like I was pulling the frog out of their mouths every hookset.
