aI was fishing below a well know dam here in SW Idaho, with the Snake River running very high it has become a haven for smallies this year. The sad part is that there are many bucket "fisherman" that are keeping everything and all that they catch, but I digress. I was fishing a well known brand name spinner bait along, close to the bank. As I dropped the bait into the rocks I thought I was snagged up, until the fish started to take out line on a fairly tight drag. I got it close enough to the bank to where I could till it was huge. Then it turned and snapped the spinner bait  like a twig. I have no idea how big it might have been, but it was huge and may have been a fish of a life time. Needless to say I am changing brands of spinner baits and am open for suggestions, seriously. PS the spinner bait was brand new just out of the package.

Was this a titanium spinner bait by any chance? Every spinner bait I ever bought that had titanium wire broke off. The wires don't get bent out of shape, but the titanium is brittle and does break.

Not a titanium, but that's good to know.

Sure it was a smallie?  If you're fishing below the dam I think then there's a lot of big fish below that dam that aren't smallmouth but also have that bronze color.

Very possible, but from the experience I am betting it was a smallie.
