Adleyfishes Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 I got a few rods laying around at home and they're all mediums. Just wondering what I should use them for? Quote
Fishin' Fool Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Not all mediums are created equal but I like that power for my Keitech rod. But you could throw crankbaits, smaller jigs and t-rigs. You can do a lot with a medium. Quote
Yudo1 Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 I like to use mine for wacky rigging senkos, tubes, poppers, lipless cranks, finesse jigs, anything within it's lure rating. Medium powered rods are versatile. Quote
bigturtle Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 whatever lure size that's within the rod's lure weight range. 2 Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted May 12, 2017 Super User Posted May 12, 2017 Anything about 1/2oz, give or take a quarter. Quote
JDNKC Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 Medium action is great for small crankbaits depending on the tip. Quote
clh121787 Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 Couldn't tell ya..out of all my probably dozen or more bass rods I own not one is a medium. And honestly id rather be 2 powers too strong than 1 power too weak . This is 90 percent due to my location and the cover I fish. Quote
Dinger0306 Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 I only own one casting setup and it's a medium, although it is an Abu rod which runs closer to a medium-heavy than most. I love using it for weightless stick baits, 3/8oz< spinnerbaits, 1/4oz< jigs, shallow diving cranks, 1/4oz T rigs, buzzbaits, buzz frogs, the list goes on and on. I know most people say that a MH/F rod is the most versatile, but there's a lot of stuff you can do with a M/F. Only thing I won't/don't like doing with it is 1/2oz+ jigs and spinnerbaits, and punching. I barely do that stuff so it's not a big issue. Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 A medium can do a little bit of everything. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted May 14, 2017 Super User Posted May 14, 2017 Depends on lure rating, like someone stated not all medium power are created equal. Medium is a versatile stick, just like a medium heavy is...just think of them as the younger brother who can only use lighter weights. Quote
