gall Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Sorry If I spelled it wrong but has anyone use this rod looks a lot like daiwa rods I've seen seems pretty nice for a box store brand though and the reels in that series got great reviews Quote
22hertz Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 I've handled them in the store. I liked and bought the Tournament ZX rod over the Arachnid. The Arachnid rods were more stiff than the ZX rods and felt a little heavier in my hands. Go check them out. We all have different preferences so you may like these rods. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 12, 2017 Super User Posted May 12, 2017 The Arachnid rods use K series guides with SiC inserts, and they are very light. If you can find one on sale in the model you like I'd get it. I'm not sure which model Tournament ZX rod 22hertz was comparing to what model Arachnid but these rods aren't even close in weight or components. I know the 7'3" heavy power is the first in the casting rods to hit 4 ounces in weight while all the tournament ZX rods are 4 ounces and above. My friend's brother works in the fishing department and when the Arachnid rod came out I wanted to know why they were $200, and the Fuji K-series guides with SiC inserts along with the Toray graphite blanks was enough for me to understand but I was able to get the weights of the rods as I was considering grabbing one. We all have our own perceptions but the one thing with the Arachnid rod is that they really made them light weight but they didn't sell well due to the price, you are buying a rod not proven in the same price point as a St. Croix Avid which is the benchmark for that price point. craww Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 I now own two, the 6'10" M shakeyhead spinning rod and the 7' 3" H casting rod and may get one more. Very, very sensitive rods. They do in fact flex down the blank into a more parabolic bend when a fish loads, yet you would never know it casting and retrieving. They are a hair underrated power wise, the shakeyhead model is a little more in its sweet spot casting senkos, spinner baits, buzzbaits, even 1/2 traps. It's a little different for a rod that handles baits that heavy and having that fast of an action "giving" up torque to the fish, but it works. I've been throwing rattle baits for river stripers and largies alot this year and haven't lost the 1st fish. They're great performers with a lifetime warranty- (not sure how that plays out w/cabelas on a discontinued rod). I own a 7' Med Avid and it's similar to the 610 arachnid in power and tip; but the arachnid is substantially less tip heavy and more sensitive. Quote
gall Posted May 12, 2017 Author Posted May 12, 2017 Thanks everyone for the replies I was looking at the 6'10 ml actually and that's good to know about the power ratings cause I want a good rod go handle flowing water smallmouth and like the idea it will be parabolic with how the surge 1 Quote

I've never gotten my hands on that model, but have wondered if that would be just about right for what I use a spinning rod for. The Med is great but is getting into what I use casting rods for. gall Posted May 12, 2017 Author Posted May 12, 2017 I. Might take the risk it's only 99 on cabelas website right now Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 I got one on sale and have been using it paired with my Tatula SV. I LOVE the rod. It is made by Daiwa. The blank is very sensitive, the rod is very light. I really like the components on it as well. I think it is a great purchase when on sale. 1 Quote

A lot of Cabela's products are either Daiwa or okuma rebranded items like the arachnid reels. I'm not sure who makes the rod but I've owned a lot of Daiwa stuff and I've never seen a Daiwa rod advertising a toray blank or a resin like the supr resin mentioned in the rods description. If I had to venture a guess I'd say it's made in one of the factories where okuma or *** rods are manufactured, but it's definitely not Daiwa. It does look like a great deal on a rod for 100 bucks. I wish I had a Cabela's close by so I could feel it in hand but sometimes you just have to order one and cross your fingers. At least I have to anyways, that darn monkey is always riding piggyback when I see a good deal. That's why I still have max 3d, elite tech small mouth, and tatula rods with tags. The deals were so good(all under 100 each), I had to buy extras in case I broke one Quote

I am pretty sure Okuma doesn't advertise Toray blanks either. *** does indeed use Toray blanks, and they also do a combo of EVA Foam, and Cork on their handles much like the arachnid has. I've never used their rods before, so if they made this one, I am very impressed with it and wouldn't have an issue getting their rods in the future. Quote
offsidewing Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 I had two Touney ZX casting rods that I got on sale in March sitting on my rod rack NWT. I Returned them to my local Cabelas today and picked up the equivalent Arachnids for $99. Really nice rods for $99. Too many other good choices at the $200 price point. Quote
Largemouth21 Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Daiwa makes Cabelas reels, not sure but probably the rods also Quote

Take a look at the Verano casting reel, it is an Okuma reel, and based on the Helios platform. The rods aren't Daiwa, I know this because everything Daiwa does for Cabela's still carries a Daiwa logo, even the first prodigy reel made by Daiwa had the phrase "Engineered for Cabela's by Daiwa" stamped on the handle side of the reel and none of the rods have a Daiwa logo anywhere. kbeeb374 Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Just got the 6'3'' MXF spinning shipped to me and I am VERY impressed with the balance and weight. I will be fishing it Wednesday myself and anticipate it to perform very well. Quote
