Hey guys. I'm going to try my hand at some deeper ledge cranking this summer & am looking for a rod to handle some larger cranks. I'm planning on ordering a few 6th Sense Crush 300DD (1oz) crankbaits.

Right now I'm looking at 3 rods & am not sure which would be better.

St. Croix Mojo Big Crankster  (7'8 MH/M)

Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 (7'11 H/M)

Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 (7'11 XH/M)

I'll probably pair it with an Abu Garcia Revo Winch & 12lb Fluoro.

Thanks!

Before you decide take a look at an Irod  IRG7113CC “Fred’s Crank Launcher.  It runs about the same price $149.99

I would also look at a Max 3D 7115 CB G/C MOD Fast Medium Heavy that would run you $159.99

I love the dobyns cranking rods and i have the rm 764.  For one ounce and larger the rm 805 might be a better choice like the DD22 or the x8 or x10.  The other rod i would give serious consideration to is the x series from Phoenix.  TT did a review on the x-10 and it was considered to be very refined.  Again for the larger baits i would be using a heavier version like Phenix Composite Crankbait Cast Rod 7'6" Med Hvy  I dont use glass and if you like the feel of a glass rod then someone else might be more help.

This may sound like a joke but, I throw my 20ft+ divers on a 7'11 H skeet reese deep plus crank rod with an orra winch 5.4 gear ratio. Yes its lower end. Probably as low as you can get. But I love it. Haven't caught a fish yet with it but also havent fished it in the right time of year. I use 30lb braid with mine as well and can cast a 10xd 75 yards or better.

I've used the big crankster with a E5 for several years and been happy with it. It's not the lightest rod you'll ever fish but it's a great DD22, Z Boss ect. rod. I usually use 8 or 10lb. Invisx.

I use a Halo Cranking Rod, 7'11" MH, and a Curado 200I 5.5:1 reel. Great deep crank setup.

I agree with John

Check out the composite X Series of rods from Phenix. I have thier "deep diver" X11 (which I bought by mistake) It's rated to 3oz and I swear you wouldn't know it if you didn't look.

The X 11 is 7' while the X 13 is 7' 6" with the same spec.

These rods are made for what you want to do.

I've used the Enigma A-Mart 7'11" MH crank rod with an Orra Winch and a 13 Crankinstein with a Lew's Super Duty 5 ratio reel.

As long as you can cast it a long ways and not get tired bringing it straight up at the end of the retrieve then it's fine.
