As the title states I'm looking at getting a new casting setups for mostly fishing jigs and other rigs (texas etc.) ranging from 1/4 up to 3/4oz - maybe a little more. I have been looking at the St Croix Avid X series in 7ft MH Fast or something similar in that price range. As for the reel I am having a hard time deciding between the Abu Revo Premier, STX, Lews Tournament Pro G, Tourament MB, BB1, a Shimano curado I, or a daiwa tatula. Trying to stay somewhere around 350 for the entire combo I'm just having a tough time choosing with so many options. Thanks for any input!

Do yourself a favor and check out Sportman's Outfitters.  You could put yourself into a Daiwa Tatula rod and reel for $220.  MSRP would be $300.

That's $130 to spare for your next combo ;)

$220 for that combo is a great deal.  You'd be off to a great start with a quality combo.

I am not sure what Fishin Fool was looking at but I do not see that offered on their website.

My preference is definitely the Tatula reel. I fish 4 original sized Tatula Type r reels and 2 Tatula CTs.  I love them all, but I would recommend the Tatula CT in 6.3 or 7.3-1 ratio. That reel runs $129 regularly, but can often be found online for less.

My favorite jig combo is a Tatula CT 6.3-1 and a Powell Max 683CEF. Take a moment to read the Tackletour review on that rod. The new version would be a Powell Max3D.

A couple of other great options would be a Dobyns 734C in either the Fury series ($110) or the Sierra series ($170)

Lastly look at the Irod Genesis II  IRG 704C and the IRG 744C  both of which are great rods for $149.  I fish rods from all of these brands and they fish great.

Look again. Each is offered for $109.

For what you want it for the 7.3 to 1 model.

Wow, I wonder why that did not come up the first time.. The google search came up with what had to be an older page.

Anyway you are correct, it is a very good deal! The reel is the larger standard Tatula, that is fine with me since I fish with 4 of the type Rs. If the op would rather, he can get Tatula CT for $29 more most places.  That would make a nice combo.

Tatula CT can be had for $98 on eBay. I have 4 that I bought on there and love. All brand new from reputable sellers.

American Legacy Fishing also has the 8:1 CT type R for $119.

That plus a Tatula rod for be a killer combo for just over $200.

Thanks for all the replies, found some good deals on the Tatula 100hs and the CT. I'll have to check them out at a store for size and see which one I like best.

The Tatula would be a good choice and what I'd pick out of those in your list. The AvidX is also a fine choice, but I would also recommend you check out Hammer Rods - I would go with the 7'H Micro for what you are describing.

Curado or Tatula in my opinion.  I love Shimano, and plan on trying out Daiwa soon, as I have only heard good things about Daiwa on the forum.  Not too big of a fan of Abu, and not a fan of Lews.

Edit: Really like Abu Garcia's cheaper reels, Orra and ProMax but have seen some really bad black max's

So I think the plan is to pair a Tatula 100HS or CT HS with a 7'1" MH XF Tatula Rod - Total Price about $200 from sportman's outfitters

Yep and your half way to your next combo with what you saved. I'm fairly new to casting reels and I find that the Tatula is very user friendly. You got a great combo for the cost.

FYI to help sweeten this deal you get a Daiwa Huk long sleeve t-shirt when you buy a Tatula reel before May 31st. However, I don't think Ebay counts it has to be a store receipt. I got one last year and wear it a ton. I lover it. Check out Daiwa Huk promotion offer 2017.  I'd link it but @JFrancho will give me more negative points ;)

If you get a Tatula rod AND reel you can claim 2 shirts.

Thanks for the heads up - I ordered the Rod and reel on Friday and it was delivered today! Feels like a great combo! I can't wait to test it out! Thanks again for all of the recommendations.
