Burntorangefan Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 So I was describing to another guy the color of the jerkbait we had some success on last weekend (Rapala Shadow Rap - Silver) as being black on top and silver on bottom - like Oakland Raider colors - and it made me wonder what other football teams colors work in bass fishing. Anyone have other ideas of lure colors that you might describe to someone using a football team color analogy? Quote

jr231 Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 I don't own any colors that haven't caught bass... Purple , orange, yellow, lime green, pink , white and everything in between. Profile, action and timing outweigh color by about 9 yards (; In other words whatever your team is I guarantee you can make a laminate senko with those colors and catch bass with it.. from blue and silver to purple and yellow... 3 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted May 10, 2017 Super User Posted May 10, 2017 probably.....what school's colors are junebug red flake? AND...if you could only take the colors from one college football conference, which one would you pick?!? Quote
BassNJake Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 I have a Cleveland Browns colored rod and a few Brown and Orange jigs to match. This way I can be disappointed on the water too 16 Quote
Hog Basser Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 I've seen this one on ebay for sale, someone hand makes them and I might just have to buy one to hang on the wall if nothing else! 3 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted May 10, 2017 Super User Posted May 10, 2017 I have a lot of crankbaits and am pretty sure I've gotten at least a dink or runt on all of them. Some of the colors are more of a novelty or just to see if I could get a Smallie on them which I have. Bandit has some wild patterns out there that work and I would not hesitate to tie on. I tie them on as a change up and most often if I fish it hard enough it comes through. But anyway orange and black is the Cincinatti Bengals, Delta red and black Arizona Cards, Red and black is Atlanta Falcons. They claims color does not mean much. 1 Quote

This is kind of what I was thinking of, where even the shade matters. The green here, for example, wouldn't match a lot of Greens on teams, but it's perfect for Sparty/JETS 2 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 10, 2017 Super User Posted May 10, 2017 If you think it matters, then go for it. I'm sure the bass don't care about what team you are matching. 1 Quote

I don't think it matters, necessarily. Or at least it's way down the list of things that do. That being said, this was more of a fun exercise in whether there are other colors that you'd use a football team's colors to describe it to someone. Quote

Burntorangefan Posted May 10, 2017 Author Posted May 10, 2017 Cowboys all day long. Need a plastic worm in Dallas colors! There's an idea for sponsors: if everyone is convinced they can catch bass in any color, someone should put out a line of NFL/College Football team colors. Tell me the Crimson Tide fans wouldn't jump on those like crazy. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 10, 2017 Super User Posted May 10, 2017 Sorry I wasn't clear. Cowboys fan, since I was a little kid. Quote

Super User RoLo Posted May 13, 2017 Super User Posted May 13, 2017 Always match the colors of the losing team, it creates the illusion of an easy meal. If nothing else, this may help to downgrade preoccupation with lure color Roger 3 Quote
Super User king fisher Posted May 14, 2017 Super User Posted May 14, 2017 I am captain of a private sport fishing yacht based on the west coast of Mexico. In the past I picked colors for bill fish lures randomly. This year the owner of the boat noticed most of the time I had at least one lure in a spread of seven that was purple and black. He wanted to know why I always fished a Min. Viking lure, He is a big Cowboy fan and thought I should have more Dallas lures out. Trolling at 9 knots, on the surface, I don't think color makes a big difference, I thought it would be fun to run an NFL spread, and keep track of which one had the most bill fish between Nov. first, and May first. One Silver and blue for Cowboys, one Black and purple because my first mate is a Minnesota fan, one Blue and green because I'm a Seahawk, and one Orange for Denver. All the football lures were the same make and size. The other three lures in the spread would depend on the local baitfish. Results for numbers of bill fish were, from first to last. Vikings, Cowboys, Denver, Seahawk. Largest blue marlin was a Cowboy, Sure hope my Seahawks do better next year. My favorite bass color would have to be Vikings, with Cleveland browns running a close second. Quote
