In line circle hooks for trout #8, what brand?

Darn.  I was about to buy some Gamakatsus off Ebay but just realised they are offset.  Gama does not make #8 in-lines.  Lucky I caught it.

 

Where can I find #8 inline circles?  Which company makes these?  Thanks.

Just curious, why a circle hook?  I've had great success with Raven Sickle, Specialist, and Octopus.

circles and used them all the time for panfishing with long 

poles (no reel). 

 

My only beef with them is they are too easy to gut hook when

fishing under a float. Even though they're circle, I the offset

makes it easier to gut hook than an inline would. At least that's

my sense, but haven't used an inline that small.

 

I've used inline Nautilus circle hooks for catfishing, but not 

down to a #8. Don't know who makes an inline that small.

I definitely need circles.  Waaayy too many gut hooks (basically 100%).  Kids are fishing a fish finder rig with bait, with a loop in the line to allow the trout to run a bit before hooking itself.  Even if I dont make the loop, there is normally enough slack from wind to allow for the gut hook.  Kids dont have long attention spans so rods are dead sticked.

I guess I'd limit the fishing time, and train them to focus, while teaching them to fish for the strike.  I use a float rig.  Pretty simple, float goes down, raise the rod and reel in.  Hook sets itself with that pressure.  I'm just not sure why you'd use a meat and potatoes method for catch and release.  Unless your keeping them, but then why the circles?

 

Anyway, maybe take a look at some float/shot patterns, and try it.  Pretty deadly technique for trout of all sizes.

Raven are good hooks.  However, you may also take a look at the Eagle Claw 38 salmon egg hooks.  They are similar to circle; you can straighten out what little offset there is with needle nose pliers.  These are strong hooks, I can attest to that as I have caught numerous salmon using these.

Guys I keep reading I should use a 1/0 hook with the YUM and with shiners.  However, I have yet to hold one of these hooks in my hand so I cant judge it for myself.

 

What size shiner should I be looking to put on a 1/0?  I dont know whats in our local pond but say I catch a ***/4 inch shiner, would that size fish work on a 1/0?  Thanks.

Where are you located? There should be a local tackle/bait shop nearby? The people that work in these places are generally really helpful and can explain tackle and techniques.  You can even find helpful, knowledgeable folks in some of the bigger stores such as Bass Pro.

This forum is a great place to get information, however, if you expand your scope a little and speak to people face to face, and see and touch the tackle by going into a store, you will get off the ground a little faster and have an easier time rigging up.
