Has anyone seen these things? Admittedly, I'm not a kayak guy, but I saw this video on my facebook feed and it peaked my interest.  I did a quick search on them and found a few of the specs here. https://www.saltstrong.com/stik-boat/ Other than the price tag, it looks like it would be pretty sweet and if I ever see one used cheap, I might have to get into the kayak game.

  • According to the Stik Boat website, the MSRP is $6850
  • Weight of Stik Boat: 250 lbs

I'm no yak guy but aren't these variables the ones I see constantly see as the points that make a yak great in reverse? I mean its no longer the little light weight boat a guy can throw on top of his ricer by himself/herself. And it sure is not the dirt cheap means to be in the water. Won't they now also have to be registered? Possibly now a trailer?

Im sure there will be some that love these and think they are great.

It's definitely cool but like @S. Sass said, it's not effectively targeting the kayak crowd. At that price and weight...it's basically a boat. A trailer is almost a must at that weight, and it will need to be registered. I'm also not sure how that would be classified legally...because I know some bodies of water ban jet skies, and let's be honest, that's a jet ski in disguise of kayak.

I can totally see where you're coming from on this, but I don't think they're marketing this for those that are just looking for a throw a top kayak. It definitely would be harder to move around and transport vs a kayak. It's more reminiscent of a boat than a kayak in that regard, but being a boat owner the majority of my life I don't feel inconvenienced that way. As far as price goes, I've seen some non-powered kayaks that are pushing 4K so those aren't exactly cheap either. It would have to be registered, at least in WI it would, but that's about $11 a year for a boat that size.

I've seen either these, or another brand that does

something similar. But yeah, fun for vacations and

stuff, probably to the annoyance of other kayakers,

LOL. I don't fish waters that allow gas locally, would

certainly add them to my list though.

That said, I couldn't afford one as it stands. I love my

DIY electrified Native Ultimate, though I do want to

upgrade from a 30# thrust...

Looks like a Kayak and a Jet-ski had a baby.

The price is comparable with Gheenoe pricing.  Similar type of craft.  These are more like personal flats skiffs than a kayak.

I just don't see the point. You have none of the advantages of a boat (other than speed) for the price of a used boat....and if you wanted it just for the thrill, buy a jet ski. I just don't see who would buy this.

I see several reasons to purchase a craft like this. If you are a shallow water or a river fisherman, being able to cover some distance on the water can be important. In a river, paddling a kayak against the current while it can be done, is not always easy. Being able to motor upstream and float back to your put in place is a great advantage. Having a jet motor and being able to travel the shallows where prop boats can't go is also huge.

As someone who regularly floats rivers, being able to get off the water quickly when a storm comes up is important.

I can defend a purchase like this because I just purchased a boat that does a lot of the same things except that it can hold 2 persons. Mine is like a jet powered canoe on steroids.

It's light, only weighs 250lbs (without the motor). 16ft long, 4ft wide. Unlike a kayak, I have a trolling motor and oars. I can run shallow rivers, and I won't need another car to shuttle me. I can get 10 miles up or down stream in 20 minutes. That's a long way to try and paddle especially going upstream. To get where you want to go you have to have the right craft. An $80,000 bass boat can't go where this boat (or a jet kayak) can go. I paid more for just the jet motor on my boat than that entire jet kayak costs.

For someone who wants to fish small lakes, the jet kayak is not for you. But for a flats or a river fisherman, It might be just the right tool for the job.

Sick... but overpriced.  Might as well get a motorized 16 foot boat, which would be a lot cheaper.  Maybe when I'm a billionaire with nothing else to do.

If i were to spend that amount of money i would buy a pwc fishing rig, faster, more comfortable, same price, fish the shallows. I always saw kayaks as the light cheap alternative fishing platform, this wrecks all those advantages, just can't see it, not for me.

Too much boat to be a kayak and too much kayak to be a boat. For that money, I could fix up a nice aluminum flat bottom for my bigger boat option.

@Scott F that's a sweet ride!  Congrats.  That would be a killer boat for the Susky, out my way.

My local canoe rental business has a couple similar to this.  Mokai is the brand.  They use them as chase boats.
