As I am building my arsenal of tackle, I am pondering how to store it the best way. I fish from the bank and a jon boat. My backpack carries 5 3600 boxes. I have a terminal tackle, crankbait, jerk bait, topwater, and jig boxes. I have enough baits that I am running out of room to fit most of my tackle. I am thinking of switching to 3700 size boxes. One will have sim jigs, crankbaits, hard baits (topwater and jerkbaits), jigs, terminal tackle, and one for other stuff like frogs. I am between a few 3700s or lots of small 3600 size boxes. I want to try the flambeau wp5005 if i do the 3700 s or plano pro latch 3600 s if i go that route. thanks

I'd stick with the 3600 boxes, just get more of them and organize your tackle differently.  instead of sorting by type of lure, think type of year or water clarity and bring just the boxes you need for that day and body of water.

I'm in same [lack of] boat.

I TRY and sort by type and color (1 light and 1 dark finesse, 1 crank/swim/jerk, spoon spiners/top water, and terminal T,)

best recomendation is get a large single strap sling bag. Full range of motion to cast on the move.

This isnt a sling pack, but the bps backpack is awesome. I caught mine on sale for 27 dollars and it came with 3 or 4 3600 boxes. I have a total of 9 3600 boxes, 2 reels, 2 spools of line, clippers, knife, pliers, screwdriver, 1lb bag of senkos, and have the small pockets free still if i had odds and ends or need to put my cellphone in there. I can make a good cast with it on. You can also zip off the bottom half and just take 4 3600 boxes if you needed.

I also sort my tackle by style of fishing, ie: shallow/moderate cranks, jigs, trailers, terminal tackle, plastics, coldwater, topwater, spinnerbaits/chatterbaits, deep cranks.

I fish from a kayak and the bank.  Just bought a new Spiderwire tackle bag in January.  It comes with 5 storage boxes and there is room to add more.  It also has plenty of storage pockets for hooks, pliars, line, extra soft plastic packs, etc.  Highly recommend!

My advice is actually to try and pare down the amount of tackle you take, especially when bank fishing.  Two 3600 size Planos and one 3500 size should be enough to carry what you need if it's a familiar lake.  If you like to stay mobile and move around a lot you'll appreciate the lighter weight and being able to find what you need in your pack a lot faster.

I use both the 3600 and 3700 size boxes. My situation is slightly different since I'm fishing from a boat 99% of the time and about 90% of that time is in my own boat. No matter how you decide to organize, I'd suggest buying another box or two and using them as day boxes. When you're headed to a body of water that you have fished before and know water clarity and what you'll be fishing, take baits you know you'll be using from their original storage boxes and put them in your day box. This way you're not stuck with a full box of a specific bait, you'll have what you think is going to work on that day. When you get home, you can put the baits back to their original places until you're ready to go again.

I store frogs and cranks in used peanut butter jars. just put some baby powder in for the frogs, fill it full of frogs and throw it in your pack. For cranks i rubber band the hooks together and stuff them in jars.

Senkos mixed in the bag? Some Colors bleed, reds particularly bad.

Learned that the hard way.

Keep plastics in their bags if possible, separate from other baits and plastics.

Store your tackle in your bedroom or man cave to keep it out of the excessive heat and cold.

As for which size tackle box you need....totally up to you and your preference.

The suggestion about having a specific box with the tackle you will be using the most that one day is a good one. I do it pond and boat fishing plus in tournaments so I don't have to take time to hunt for a specific bait.

Label your tackle boxes, too.

One thing I always did before I had a boat was every time I went out I put what I used in a separate container... after 5-6 times out it's amazing how little you actually use. This is a quick easy way to identify what you need and what you really don't.

Yes i love when all the colors mix. Have some white/blue with just a hint of red(bleed off from another color) and it kills in the fall. I also primarily fish 2 colors of soft baits/ jigs. Green pumpkin and black/blue. I keep it simple

I like to have a lot of stuff with me but most of the time I use just a few things.

It's a pain in the Ass but necessary part of the game. We all (I assume) use different stuff different places/season/weather/clarity etc.

I find myself re-tooling at least 30 min before each trip out.

As I don't have a lot of tackle yet I categorize by fish, I have a catfish box, bass box, and a lake box (perch/walleye). I try different presentations and lures so I'm sure I'll need to start leaving stuff at home so I'm not carrying a 30 lb bag around. Even though I feel 1000% better when I have everything with me.
