Red Braid?

Looking to spool my new Shimano Stradic Ci4+FA 3000 with new line. It will be paired with a 7'1" ML 13-NV-BLK. I will be using it for dropshots and ned rigs with exposed hooks. I like braid to a fluorocarbon leader. Usually 6-8 lb Seaguar Invisx. I want red braid to match my reel. I have read that red disappears fastest in the water column. I fish a lot of clear water, so stealth is important. Looking at Powerpro Vermillion in 10 - 20 lb test. Im thinking 15 or 10. What do you think?

Be ready for your reel to be stained red. I put some on 2 Okuma Epixor baitfeeders I use for wipers and catfish, both of them have red stains from the coating bleeding off the line during use.

From my understanding, with the depths and conditions we bass fishermen encounter the whole red line disappearing first thing was kind of debunked a while back.

 

At any rate the line you mentioned is good. Pretty much all PE lines will lose their coating/color. Products like braidaid and KVD L&L seems to help the color last a bit longer. I found the red spike it markers do a good job coloring red braid and doesn't smell as obnoxious as sharpies, which a lot of guys use. The smell probably wears off pretty quick, but I always thought why drag such an off putting smell by the fish before the bait passes by its nose.

Red PowerPro eventually turns pink.

I catch fish in 20ft of water on bright red craws and worms, pretty sure they can see red

As already stated, the red PP seems to bleed/stain worse than the other colors, and you quickly end up with a much faded color line. My experience has also been that red is the hardest color PP line for me to see. Don't know about the fish, but I catch plenty of them on that exact color line, so there are at least some slow learners in the bunch

I'd go with bright yellow or fluorescent orange instead of red for the added visibility, the fish could care less which color your line is.

My red PP has faded, but I've never noticed any issues with my equipment being stained.

According to Dr. Jones of Berkley in his studies of the bass population in his book, Knowing Bass, page 161, "bass have good color vision in the spectral areas of red and green."

I'd go with Hi-Vis Yellow braid, especially in stained lakes.

That way the bass can follow your line right to your lure

why dont you run a really long leader? 15-20ft of 6lb fluorocarbon for example

Never used the red PP but I use the bright yellow and green. I always use a Flourocarbon leader and never had any issues catching fish. I do notice that when my leader gets to be about 2 feet long I don't get as many bites. Might just be me but I like my leader 4 to 6 feet. Some guys say straight braid works for them. That has not been my experience. I fish  relatively clear lakes.

If you're talking about a Stradic CI4+, then I can assure you that it still looks pretty darn good with the hi-vis yellow.

I have red, yellow and orange braid on different reels. They don't seem to mind what color the tablecloth is at the buffet!

OP specifically asked about power pro Vermilion, which I believe was produced as a replacement for Red. I believe Red bleeds like crazy, from what I've heard. I spooled the Vermilion this year and haven't had any gear staining. I'm sure eventually it will lighten up and turn pink, but I have no staining concerns so far.
