Super User Sam Posted May 7, 2017 Super User Posted May 7, 2017 Can anyone out there confirm this article? With so many false news articles floating around I an curious if anyone out there has heard this announcement from other sources? Thanks. http://wset.com/news/local/gander-mtn-closing-all-locations-going-out-of-business Quote
Mumbly Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 If you check the Gander website it will show you all that information as well. Just a huge disclaimer saying all stores are closing. Guessing that is confirmation. 1 Quote
riverbasser Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 I thought it was just my local store when I went in the other day they had just started their going out of business sale. That's crazy Quote
nguggs Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 According to the new owner on his Twitter, they are trying to keep ~70 stores open. Very transparent in his feed on which stores specifically. But, in the deal for buying Gander, they did not purchase the merchandise in the store, so the merchandise is being liquidated, even for stores they are keeping open. Quote

YUT18 Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 I received an email from Gander Mountain on Sunday with the subject being "Liquidation Prices! Preparing for the new Gander Mountain. However, in the body of the email it says that all 126 locations nationwide will be going out of business. Quote
Catch 22 Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 I was at the Salisbury,Md store today Beware the sales.Just about all tackle is marked down 15%,which actually brings prices in line with what other stores sell it for normally. I saw no real bargains. I picked up some Keitech plastics @ $ 6.80/per So then a visit to Dicks for more of the same @$6.99==Buy 3 get 1 free. SO now I have LOTS of Keitechs. Also 10% off t motors Guns, ammo 5% Clothing 20% No doubt as the sale goes on discounts will increase. Its a game 1 Quote

Super User RoLo Posted May 13, 2017 Super User Posted May 13, 2017 Back in the 80s, Gander Mountain was one of the Big-3, the other 2 being Bass Pro Shops & Cabelas. After visiting one of their stores in Florida, it was plain to see they were struggling (clues were everywhere) Gander Mountain took waaay too long to launch online shopping, which IMO sounded their death knell. If Gander Mountain filed Chapter 11, another distributor could possibly support reorganization, but if they filed Chapter 7, it's over. Roger Quote

Roger Roger, didn't they sell their catalog sales to Cabelas about that same time. I believe as a part of that agreement Gander Mountain could not start catalog sales again for "X" number of years and , if I'm correct, may not have been able to have internet sales for that same period. Memory not what it once was, but I seem to remember something like that......Al Quote

If Gander Mountain is in fact under reorganization, it would seem that a non-compete clause would only prolong the inevitable. Furthermore, I was told that Cabelas has issues of its own, so let's hope they don't bite off more than they can chew. In any event, I hope it all works out for the better, because the more distributors out there the better for us consumers. That little thing called competition. Roger 1 Quote

A company in Chapter 11 is protected from creditors while selling off its least profitable outlets. Although their blowout sales are designed to express urgency, it takes many years to complete a bankruptcy. Kmart (Kresge) filed bankruptcy under Chapter 11 in the late 1990s, before the turn of the century. Just last year a Kmart in Winter Haven, FL was finally shuttered, 20 years after filing Chapter 11.
