Super User Cgolf Posted May 5, 2017 Super User Posted May 5, 2017 Does anyone know when this will be available? Would love to see it in TW for the Memorial Day sale. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted May 5, 2017 Super User Posted May 5, 2017 Wait, what? A smaller Menace Grub is coming out? I tried to google for it but just found some guys tricked out Mini Cooper. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted May 5, 2017 Super User Posted May 5, 2017 That is cool as heck. A weightless Menace is already of of my most productive numbers lures, I would think that a smaller one could replace most of the small river/stream plastics I currently use. I also use the Menace for a half dozen other presentations, a smaller version would be perfect as a scaled down trailer or on a micro shakeyhead or Draggin Head jig. I do wish they would round off the nose though, it would come through cover a lot better when rigged weightless and it would be a simple matter to trim it back flush for use as a trailer. Quote

I actually like the nose, it pairs well with a slider spider head:) Never thought of weightless, but I would probably fall asleep with that rigging which is why I don't fish senkos lol Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 One of my favorite baits is the Menace. I have not only been catching good numbers of fish, but I've caught some better quality fish with them as well. It's already small enough that a 3/0 hook almost takes up the entire bait. I'm guessing the smaller one will require a 1/0 or 2/0 hook. The smaller one would be perfect as a trailer on my bitsy bugs probably. 2 Quote

Airman4754 Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 It should be about the best finesse jig trailer on the market. 3 Quote

My main techniques are two, first, to run them slowly, but consistently across flats or just over weed beds, just fast enough to keep them just above the cover. If I need to go a little deeper or am dealing with sparse pads, I add a 1/8oz steel weight, pegged. It adds just a little weight to keep it down and acts as a "nosecone" to protect the lure and keep it from snagging as I pull it through cover. The second retrieve is more fluke-like, a run it for a few feet, then let it die and fall to the bottom. Then a second or so of pause, then run it for a few more feet. I do this more along weedlines or other sparse cover. Rig them on a 3/0 Owner light/medium wire straight shank hook. The hookup ratio is great and the lures last for a decent number of fish before they are retired to trailer duty. 1 Quote

Think it would be great for spawning northern WI bass this spring/early summer. Steve's FB says available for ICAST in July. 1 Quote

I have River fishing data that shows that the smaller crawbugs far outproduce the bigger size. I think the smaller menace would fall into that category imitating the smaller craws. Also during the bass spawn and post frontal conditions, I would think a downsized version would produce. Then again I have been trending smaller for lures in general, even for Musky and still catching bigger fish. 1 Quote

I like bulky baits for pitching and a larger version would be an awesome bulky bait that would glide through any kind of cover. 1 Quote
