Roger Personal I can't stand Glocks! THE US ARMY is retiring the standard-issue Beretta M9 after 35 years in favor of a more modern sidearm. The pistol, called the P320, was originally designed by the German firm Sig Sauer for civilians in 2014, and it can be easily reconfigured to suit a variety of needs. Aint gonna address the Ruger (Nazi stormtroopers) comment! 1 Quote
riverbasser Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Very vague question. I carry a Springfield XD9 and I love it. Just as, if not more reliable than a glock which I'm not knocking I just can't stand the grip angle of a glock and has a few features I enjoy. No manual safety (only grip and trigger) a bullet in the chamber indicator and a cocked indicator( both of which I can feel with my thumb without having to see) The other would be a ruger mkiii .22 Very accurate and great for target practice and snake gun 1 Quote

Clinton john Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Model 96 40 cal Beretta my main carry pistol and a Smith and Wesson M model six inch 357 for back up pistol. If you are going to shoot a man shoot him with something that will drop him in one shot but is soft kicking enough to get off kill shots rapid fire at close range if need be. Train with the weapon, holster and ammo you intend to defend yourself with and then train some more when your done start over and train some more. I spent seven years in the sand box and the 40 is still keeping me safe Hope this helps sir. Quote

M&P9c (my current edc) and an M&P R8 I've owned LOTS of handguns over the years, from a $90 Sundance .25 to numerous $1K+ 1911 varients, and I found my "forever" gun when I bought my 9c. Perfect combination of size and capacity for me, easily concealed, accurate, and 100% reliable so far. As for the R8...well...the thought of it just makes me smile. Quote

It's funny you two scoff at the price tag, yet some seem to yearn for $450 polymer Glocks as a viable replacement. Oh, and your analogy was absolutely terrible. As far as the price goes, CZ has never had an over the top price structure even with low availability and slow production. Please enlighten me as to what dreaming big would be in your opinion? If you are going to mention a Glock product then you might as well not even waste your time. You can have any handgun in your stable and people are choosing one of, if not the, most common products on the market. Sheep. Quote

Lures'n'Liberty Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Well this is tough, 2 handguns? Where do I live, what am I doing? If I had to choose 2, I guess it would have to be an XD subcompact in .357 Sig with a .40 S&W barrel in the kit to carry and a hand cannon for hunting and up close and personal bear defense, as I have always wanted to live off the land in Alaska. A Ruger Super Redhawk .44 Mag would fit the bill nicely, although I would like to shoot one in .454 Casull before making the final determination. Both guns would get the full treatment at the gunsmith, Timney triggers, threaded barrels with caps, muzzle breaks, and suppressors for all, along with other customization too long to type. Now with that said, every handgun owner should own a .22LR and I am quite partial to a Ruger Mark II. The .22 is essential to practice, you can shoot thousands of rounds in a day with little fatigue. Even Chuck Norris would be sore and blistered after 500 rounds of .44 Mag. I suppose I could take the easy way out and pick up a .22 conversion kit for the XD, but for the sake of argument, I would classify a .22 as a practice accessory to the other 2, and I'd also call a pistol grip for a T/C Contender or Encore an accessory for a rifle. 1 Quote

I can't speak for anyone else here, but I can own any handgun I desire, and I choose to carry a $400 M&P. Guess that makes me sheep, as well. Baaaa. The most desirable pistol to each person will be determined by their needs and/or wants. For me, a match pistol is a completely useless trinket. I've owned range toys and safe queens for years, and they did nothing but take up space in my safe. At this point in my life, my guns are tools and not toys. I have no interest in "BBQ guns", and really don't care who is (or isn't) impressed by my little 9c. It's been scratched, gouged, laid on while working under the truck, covered in dust/dirt, has obvious holster wear, a dusting of t-shirt lint, and sports some nice rust on the rear sight from sweaty southern spring/summer. It's not flashy, but I have complete faith in it...and that's far more important to me than the price tag. Quote

Hypothetically.. if you walked into your local gun shop and the owner said you can have any gun in the case, you would walk out with an M&P? My EDCs get beat up and I love em, but I'm not loyal enough to choose them over a pistol that I might never get to hold let alone own. Quote

Stasher1 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Had a Dan Wesson. Beautiful gun with an incredible trigger, but the sharp edges everywhere and light primer strikes made it okay for range use but completely unsuitable for carry. I had four other 1911's at the time, so I just traded it off instead of having it fixed. Kinda regret getting rid of it sometimes when I look at my utilitarian ORM Colt 1991A1, but function > fashion. Quote

Super User bigbill Posted August 31, 2017 Super User Posted August 31, 2017 A ruger Redhawk in 41 or 44 magnum with a 5 1/2" barrel. A cz 75/85db in 9mm parabellium/ Luger. just two is a tough call. I like the 357 magnum too, plus i have a 1911a1 in 45acp I built as a low budget race pistol. It's been tested and reliable and ready to ccw carry. Built on a norinco platform. I enjoy tinkering with gun smithing. I had a new 1911a1 that stove piped in the safe since 1990. After purchasing every DVD on how to work on and build a 1911 I built the norinco first. I then took out the jamming 1911 and fixed it in 15 minutes. The extractor was unsprung. She shoots flawlessly now. This was 15 years ago. I'd rather learn how to fix them too. Being a class A machine builder I can build anything from CNC machines to the tower of terror at Disney. Quote
