Super User NYWayfarer Posted May 4, 2017 Super User Posted May 4, 2017 I rage over tangles that are bad enough to be cut and retied. Nothing I hate more than having to retie a rig on a boat in the wind with my eyesight. Funniest rage story I have is when a group of my friends went fishing. The driver hit a pothole and our bucket of minnows went flying and overturned spilling water and minnows everywhere. The guy whose lap it was in was raging but the drivers rage was even better. It seems for weeks after that trip his car would have problems starting from time to time. A costly trip to the mechanic for a diagnostic revealed that a minnow had somehow got under his mat and was laying right on his cut-off switch. Once the mummified minnow was extracted the truck had no more issues. 2 Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 I've had fish jump into trees before, but i managed to get them all out. I once had a bullhead jump clear out of the water to grab my stinkbait, I was shore fishing and got the line major tangled in a bush on the shoreline and while untangling the fish jumped up and ate it. Another time I accidentally casted across a dock, and while reeling in to get over the dock I hooked a bass. Which would have been fine, but while reeling the small bass over top of the dock the hook so somehow got snagged in the wood planking. I would have simply gone over and retrieved it, but there was a large rottweiler on the dock that was interested/confused as to why a fish was flopping on his dock. He couldn't figure out what to do with it, the dog kept darting towards it while barking and quickly biting it until the bass flopped, at which it would run away from it for a few seconds. So I had to wait till the dog finally lost interest and left to retrieve the now dead fish. Funniest thing ever to watch, a big rottweiler somewhat afraid of yet curious in a twelve inch bass. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 4, 2017 Super User Posted May 4, 2017 Rage? Aint in my fishing vocabulary! Even in tournament settings I'm too laid back, Now irritated! Had plans to fish a local river system the Saturday, 6-10" of rain yesterday killed those plans. Got call last night to fish a marsh today, 25-35 mph sustained NW wind & bluebird sky...uh no! 3 Quote
Hawkeye21 Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Last Thursday I was fishing a small river and it was about 38 degrees and winds up to 20 mph. I was floating downstream back to my vehicle and casting to the shore along the way. Managed to catch my first and only fish of the afternoon which seemed to make the trip all worth while, at least I thought. On one cast I got my lure stuck in an overhanging tree so I had to paddle back up stream and into the wind to get it out. It seemed as soon as I tried doing that the wind blew the hardest and longest, like it was trying to make me mad. What made it worse was that about 20 feet down stream was another overhanging tree that the wind wanted to blow me into. I needed to stay out of that because of my poles sticking up. I struggled for what seemed like 10 minutes paddling up stream, trying to reel in loose line, trying to stay out of the trees, getting line tangled up in my poles, getting blown down stream and paddling back up stream. I was cursing the wind like crazy. I said I don't understand wind! numerous times. I was so frustrated and was trying to paddle with one hand while the other was holding my pole and still trying to get the lure out of the tree. At some point a raged so hard trying to paddle into a gust of wind that not only did I almost tip my kayak over but I ended up bending my paddle. Must have been a lot of force put on it paddling into that wind and current. It gets my blood boiling just remembering it. If I was smart I would have just cut the line, set my pole down and paddled up with two free hands then got the lure. Or just left the d**n thing in the tree. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted May 4, 2017 Super User Posted May 4, 2017 I didn't rage over it but the passenger in the car did. I was driving his AMC gremlin (I think he was tired) and I was turning left onto a side road. In order to "beat" an approaching car, I had to gun it a bit. Unfortunately, in doing so, I dumped a bucket of minnows all over the floor and onto his legs and feet. Like I said, he "raged" about it for a bit. (I thought it was kinda funny). Authors note: It was funny because it was at the END of the day and not the beginning. Quote
EastCoastAngler Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 My dad and I were fishing a few years ago at our "honey hole", it was getting late in the day. We had just started throwing hula poppers when it sounded like a toilet flush on my dad's. He fought this monster to the bank where it had slightly wrapped around a laydown. Another guy that was fishing with us volunteered to get the fish free from the snag. He went into the water, got the fish free, and lifted it out of the water by just the line. This bass bro 12 pound mono like it was floss. Needless to say that was the largest fish I've ever seen lost. And the guy wasn't invited to fish anymore. Quote
blckshirt98 Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 For me it was when I went to my favorite local lake one afternoon and it was exceptionally windy (from shore, 15mph+ steady). I was dropshotting and the wind/current kept taking my rig to places where it would get hung up and I'd have to re-tie (which in the bad wind brought my frustration level up even more). I got hung up 5-6 times (at one point it was three casts in a row) at which point i started cussing and packed up and left. So with driving time included it was about 2.5 hours wasted, and $10 worth of gas, a bunch of lost terminal tackle, and not a single bite. This is why when I see heavy winds I just go home now. Quote
jeff25 Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Fishing out of a jon boat, went to cast a crankbait and it snagged the tip of another rod that was sticking up. Broke that rod and backlashed my other reel. Lost 2 set ups in one cast. Another time fishing in a jon boat, standing up on the bench somehow one of my rods got knocked over the side. Luckily I was able to tie on a deep diving crank and snagged it the first cast. Quote

The Kangler Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Once I took my kayak crate on my buddies bass boat for a day of fishing. My 4 rods were laying on his deck and he couldn't help but stand on them. It wouldn't have bothered me if every setup was worth over $350. After watching him trample them and nicely asking him to watch out for them several times, I decided to get them up and put them in the rod holders on my crate. Of course, that means they were sticking straight up. About a half hour later I was bombcasting a crankbait and caught the guides of my month old Megabass Orochi. Completely ripped out two of the guides. I didn't rage on the outside, but inside I was molten lava. On top of that, I couldn't get any of the local repair guys to answer a call so I had to send it to Megabass USA's guy in Texas. I spent $35 shipping each way, $20 on a rod tube, and $40 on new guides. Now my $300 Megabass rod is worth $430. Quote

Super User the reel ess Posted May 5, 2017 Super User Posted May 5, 2017 My dad went out once with my mom for an evening cruise in the pontoon. He had taken a rod with a deep diving crankbait because stripers had been schooling recently and it so happened that he ran across some. He started casting and catching and for whatever reason, my mom decided to walk up behind him as he was about to cast. Well, he floored her with his backswing of a Norman DD22. Fortunately, no hooks penetrated. But, as you can imagine, he never lived that one down. Quote

WDE Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 Happened recently, and it wasn't even my fish. Buddy hooked up with 6.5-7lb LM, and was reeling it into the dock. I dropped my rod when I saw how big it was, and reached into the water to pull it out. One violent shake he snapped the line/knot and fell from my grip and swam away. Still kicking myself for not using two hands to help land that fish for my friend. 1 Quote

Will Bass Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 I had been fishing a Rebel popper most of the day with no luck. Wind picks up, popper flies into a tree and over a branch on a cast. I'm thinking no big deal. I'll cut the line and my lure will fall back into water, the current will bring it back and nothing's lost. So I cut the line and the lure hits the water as planned. Water erupts. Big bass hit it and it's gone lol! I can laugh now but back then I was first starting out and was losing more than catching. 2 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 6, 2017 Global Moderator Posted May 6, 2017 I had a guy yell at me for cutting him off in a tournament last year. I was dumbfounded because he was so far down the bank when I pulled in that I didn't even know he was there. I was pretty hot about it the rest of the day. I think he was mad because I'd caught a keeper right before we crossed paths. Ended up winning the tournament, want to guess who was in second place? Just to prove he was a real bag, as me and @gardnerjigman were carrying our 3 18" keepers back to the water, we crossed paths with the guy who had just turned his 2 keepers loose and he pipes up with "Are any of those fish actually 18"?" I about chewed my tongue off but managed to just reply that they'd measured on the TD's board, and that's all that really matters. I checked on Google maps when I got home that day, we'd be AT LEAST 750' down the bank from where the guy was fishing on a 2,600 acre lake with a 20 boat tournament and recreational fishermen on the water. I guess I thought a couple football fields of space should have been enough. 1 Quote
