Zeeter Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 I have a Lowrance HDS-7 Gen2 non-touch screen unit now. Can anyone think of a reason why I might want to upgrade this? The only reason I can think of is that my trolling motor has iPilot on it which works with a Humminbird unit. I've never seen a need to use the iPilot, but on the other hand if I had the Humminbird I may try it out and wonder how I ever got by without it. The Lowrance unit works fine - no issues. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted May 3, 2017 Super User Posted May 3, 2017 If you do not have iPilot LINK, it makes no difference what brand of sonar unit you have. LINK is an Ethernet connection to Humminbird units. 1 Quote
Zeeter Posted May 3, 2017 Author Posted May 3, 2017 I really have no idea. I'll have to look into it. Quote
Mjmj Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 Not sure what it's like in MD, but in PA there are very few lakes that have contour maps. I bought a helix 9 si gn2 which has the ability to make my own maps. This has doubled my catches. Quote

Mjmj Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 Lucky you. Don't quote me, but I think there are only 14 lakes mapped in PA.. Quote
Zeeter Posted May 3, 2017 Author Posted May 3, 2017 Yeah, PA is almost exclusively inland lakes with a couple of rivers here and there. I grew up in PA and especially in SE PA there are few places to fish. Most of them are electric-only lakes. Out in western PA and the Poconos there's tons of places. Quote
