smr913 Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 Not a lot of 6' casting rods on the market compared to longer alternatives. I am looking for a couple to use in the kayak for walking baits and tossing spinnerbaits under trees/docks/etc. BPS seems to offer a few, but not really familiar with any of their lines. Probably looking to get two down the road, one Medium for smaller topwaters and another Med Heavy for spinnerbaits in the 3/8-1/2oz range. I'd like to keep it under $100 per rod and that seems to lock me into a BPS brand rod. Anyone have a favorite (not the brand)? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 3, 2017 Super User Posted May 3, 2017 The Saint Croix Avid AVC62MXF has a shorter rear grip than the 6'6" model. It's really only a couple inches shorter, from the reel seat to the tip. I like this rod for much of what you mentioned, and I also fish from a kayak. It's over you're price range, but it's a great rod. I've had mine since 2000. A few years ago, Saint Croix rebuilt the reel seat and grips for me. 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted May 3, 2017 Super User Posted May 3, 2017 The only 6 foot casting rod I own (a MH) is a standard Berkley Lightning. Currently it is dedicated for short range spinnerbait use, although it can get pretty decent distance. The whole combo vibrates in my hand with a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait/Colorado blade. 1 Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted May 3, 2017 Super User Posted May 3, 2017 you just missed out on a deal i had posted in the flea market, but she gone!! it was a 6' envy black casting rod. i'd call it right in that medium range. nice little rod, especially for what you're looking for in the kayak. had a very short rear grip, so the rod itself didn't feel that short in my hands. 1 Quote
Jaderose Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 I would said the old BPS Extreme,,,but they gone. 1 Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted May 3, 2017 Super User Posted May 3, 2017 I know you said your budget was $100 and you wanted to get a 6 footer. My best suggestion is to look at an Abu Garcia Ike Delay series rod model IKECW64-5. It is a terrific jerkbait, topwater rod and I have been fishing mine for about 1 1/2. It is 6'3 inches and was designed to have that shorter handle to avoid hitting your arm. The price is $129.99 so it is just above your price range, but I truly believe it is worth the extra few dollars. Maybe you could find it somewhere on sale. Check out the video on it. 1 Quote
smr913 Posted May 3, 2017 Author Posted May 3, 2017 @fishnkamp That's a good looking rod but I don't want a composite rod. This rod will be a back up jig/plastics rod when the topwater bite is cold. Quote
