TX-Deluxe Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Thinking about Sunline FC sniper 12lb on my Tat type R. Someone explain line conditioner....Why is it needed? Does it smell? Does it gunk up rod guides over time? Spray on lures too? Use it every trip? Spray when storing? Ive seen the KVD products.. I'm kinda old school.... Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 2, 2017 Super User Posted May 2, 2017 KVD Line & Lure Conditioner Spray it on as you respool, about every 25 turns The conditioner is absorbed by the line and reduces memory You can spray it on your reel without any damage at all I don't think anyone uses it on their lures No smell, no gunk 4 Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 2, 2017 Super User Posted May 2, 2017 Reel Magic is the line conditioner that does gum up the reel lubricants, KVD ine conditioner is OK, you need to spray it on the reel spool 12-24 hrs before fishing. I use TangleFree that comes in a 2 oz plastic bottle that fits into my pocket and squirt a few drops onto the spool as needed, no waiting. FC line is waterproof, water diesn't absorb into the line or wet the surface so it tends to spring off the spool. Line conditioners help water to wet the surface by sticking onto the conditioner, this helps your casting. No odors with TangleFree or KVD. To m Quote
TX-Deluxe Posted May 2, 2017 Author Posted May 2, 2017 So when you squirt a couple drops...how is it coat the line evenly? Quote

KVD is a small pump spray bottle, you spray some on the spool, rotate and spray again. When my line gets dirty, I spray some on a microfiber cloth, take another reel and spool the line from the dirty spool and clean as I reel in and out, line looks new and very clean! I always spray it on the night before I fish, works great for me. 1 Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 I use KVD Line Conditioner. It doesn't smell, it doesn't gunk up, its kind of like water, it leaves behind no residue. The conditioner goes just on the line. Some people take a towel and spray the towel down then spool their line making sure the entire spool has got some conditioner. I personally just spray it onto my spool the night before fishing, or at least 30 min before going fishing. It makes the line more manageable and helps coils, and backlashes. I spray it every trip. For me it is well worth the money. It saves me from headaches while fishing. The spray doesn't hurt the reel or spool. 9 minutes ago, TX-Deluxe said: Guys....is this stuff really necessary? CenCal fisher Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 With 12lb floro and a bait caster you will be fine without line conditioner. I had 15lb red label on my bait caster and it wasn't hard to manage without any line conditioner. Quote
TX-Deluxe Posted May 2, 2017 Author Posted May 2, 2017 I figured this stuff was more important on spinning reels? Quote

I agree. I notice my line on my spinning gear is more manageable with the KVD stuff. You can fish without it but it helps. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted May 2, 2017 Super User Posted May 2, 2017 Other than braid, I use Yo-Zuri hybrid almost exclusively. I can't speak to your Sniper at all. But when using YZ, KVD makes a tremendous difference. It really does nearly wipe out the memory. As to baitcasting, I believe it makes a pretty big difference, also; though I only use YZ on cranking rods. I suspect that as you go up in quality of FC, you probably get diminishing improvement from KVD L&L. 2 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted May 2, 2017 Super User Posted May 2, 2017 For #12 sniper it's not needed. The line is plenty manageable on it's own. I regularly fish #16 sniper without conditioner. I have used it in the past and it does help out. I'd spray 2-3 squirts on the full spool a few hours before fishing, or the night before if I knew I was going the next day. Quote
craww Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Little secret it helps braid hold its coating longer. I've noticed a tangible casting improvement with braid as well. I throw a lot of 1/32 shad darts in the spring. Just a hard bait to get distance with but the lighter versions have better action. L&L gave me a measured 10-15' on my ultralight. Oddly I don't see much improvement with bigger braids but lighter diameters it does. Maybe it adds some weight and helps it not flutter in the air, I dunno. Quote

sully420 Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 I use sunline in 12 and 16 lb and use kvd conditioner i feel like it helps the line last longer and prevents damage from over runs but it is not needed for line the quality of sunline but for cheaper fc or mono it will really help. I fished 17lb stren and line conditioner really improved the efficiency of a really stiff line. Don't use on braid it will wash the color out of the line in a hurry. 1 Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted May 2, 2017 Super User Posted May 2, 2017 Ive used 10-12-16 sniper and on one reel(Daiwa SV105) spooled with 16# I tried L&L a few outings didnt see much difference havent used it again. Quote
