I really don't have a go to, though the past couple years I've caught more on a popper than anything.

What's your go to bait?

Depending on where i'm fishing, but small 3.5"-4.5" baits - Molix Sator Worm or Reins Bubbring Shaker, but the new SK Half Shell is finding a place.

Rod: 7'1" Mojo Bass medium-heavy fast
Reel: Lew's SuperDuty Speed Spool Baitcast Reel
Line: Trilene XT Monofilament, 14 or 17 pound test in clear
Knot: Uni
Bait: 3/8th ounce Grid Iron Arky Jighead from Seibert Outdoors, Round Rubber Skirt, Baby Paca Craw as the trailer

I fished almost this exact same setup a few weeks ago and it killed for me.  Exact same reel, except with a Lew's Speed Stick 7'6" Heavy Fast and braid.  Exact same jig and similar trailer.

If the fishing is tough I'm going to fish either good structure  or head to the banks and fish deep into cover .

Posted

The waters I fish are usually clear and somewhat pressured.  So I guess this would be it.

Most any spinning rod labeled mxf to mlxf 6'6" to 7', light jig head, 1/8 th oz. tops but usually less,  small plastic with minimal action, tube, or sometimes hair, 10# braid,  6-10# flouro leader depending on cover.

To to some it might sound like the Ned, Slider, or a light jig worm. I used to call it finesse jigging before the term came to mean something else. Once you learn it, I mean really learn to feel exactly what your jig is doing and where it's at all times, it beats the DS. Takes a while  though. For me it took years.

If if it's windy, forgettaboutit. Go to the DS rig. That's why most of my weights are 1/4 to 1/2 oz.

I would have told you a wacky rigged senko in the

past. Then a drop shot the last 6 months.

The last several outings? Ned rig on 2 - 3 spinning

rods, all under 6'6" with 6, 8, or 10# fluoro or YZH.

1/5 oz weedless, and 1/20 oz weedless jigs.

Colors? Take your pick, but junebug is quite good.

Sunday late afternoon until sunset, heavy wind,

much tougher bite than I anticipated. No takers on

TX, wacky. Didn't have a drop shot tied on.

Two Ned rigs, lost 3 nice fish near the boat, which

hit my confidence in the ML rod I was using at the

time...but I persisted. Ended up with a 2, 2.2, 2.6,

a 3, and a 4 pounder before heading in. Time of

day clearly played a part, as those came as wind

died down, but the Ned produced.

So you've finally gave in and got converted to ned rigging, I knew you would love it once you put down your wacky rig and dropshot.:)

Your hooking and landing percentage might increase if you try lite braid in the 6-10 pound range with or without a leader.  I think it makes it easier to present it the way you want also.

Half of a zinkerz on a 1/16 ounce mushroom head is my "confidence technique" also.

I've not been disappointed thus far by any stretch of the

imagination. An amazing rig! :)

Given my spending ... um ... issues with Milwaukee tools

lately, I'll stick with 10# and 15# Power Pro. At least for

now... When I need new rigs, I'll consider ordering the

Zinkerz instead of TRDs. Perhaps. :)

Oh, I thought from your previous post that you were using straight flouro instead of braid, which might lead to hooking problems.  That rig should work fine, I often use 10 pound power pro cause it's usually what gos on sale at Walmart for whatever reason.

I don't have one confidence technique (I don't actually buy into the technique thing) but every time I'm throwing a jig, T-rigged plastic, spinnerbait or squarebill I'm sure they are going to get bit. With most other baits, I'm just fairly certain, so I guess my confidence technique is confidence.

As much as I love chucking and winding, I'd have to say that 'Go-to' would have to be Rage Tail, rage rigged

6'9" MF ; 30#Yellow PP w/12# leader

Owner Weighted Twistlock Lite 3/32

Rage Tail - about 40% of the time Cut-R; 40% Structure Bug -- the other 20%, I get radical and go up to go up to Anaconda or down to Thumper

With this set up, I can skip, flip, drag deep, skim shallow across top of heavy weeds, etc.....the accuracy, versatility and reliability can't be matched by anything else I carry.

For me, it depends on the kind of water I'm fishing, but I will always have some kind of jig tied on and it will likely be getting wet anytime I think it'll produce.  Typically, I'll be fishing some kind of jig or T-rig variation 1/2 the time I'm on the water.

Texas rig

6'0 Medium action rod, baitcasting reel

1/16th ounce bullet weight, 3/0 Tru Turn bass worm hook 7.5 inch Culprit worm Plum Crazy color.

I know Tru Turn hooks are old school, but if I'm fishing any other way, I'll pick up my old rod and reel that always has my Culprit tied on, and I always catch fish. I caught my PB 9 pounder this way. Everyone has their confidence rig, this is mine. I use other worm hooks in 4 and 5/0, but I miss fish a lot, where my hook up on the old Tru Turn is always a lot higher. It's pretty simple, but it never has let me down.

I start witih something fairly fast, like lipless crank or 4" paddle tail on a bullet jig, experimenting with different retrieves.  If nothing, I find out if fish are there with a Ned rig.  If fish are there, in a few minutes I'll know it.

That depends on so many things.... Are the pads/veg out?  What is the water temp and sun exposure like??

If if I had to blindly pick one thing to bring (hate that) it would likely be some kind of TX rig worm.  I'd give that worm up in a second tho if topwater is hot, pads are out and I have a fresh custom finesse frog to throw.... So it depends.  Heavily.
