Fishin' Fool Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 To follow up on my question of what technique you plan to try this year. A lot of you have mentioned drop shot, so I'm gonna try to help your learning curve by telling you how I fish it. Rod- 6'10" to 7'3" ML to M fast or extra fast Reel- 2500 Shimano Stradic FJ Line- Either straight fluorocarbon 6-8 pound test or braid (12 to 20 lb) to a 6-8 pound fluorocarbon leader Knot- Palomar and run the tag end back through the hook eyelet to make the hook stand out Baits- Yamamoto shad shaped worms, Roboworms, Reins Bubbling shakers, Poor Boys Erie Darters Hooks- Gamakatsu split shot/drop shot in either size 1 or 1/0 Weights- cylinder shaped lead or tungsten (better feel and smaller) usually between 1/8 and 1/4 To fish it I cast it out and work back in slowly twitching the rod tip without lifting the weight. Over a certain depth say 15 feet it seems to work better dropping straight down. To set the hook just reel and maintain constant pressure. I hope this helps some of you new to this technique. 4 Quote

Jelvas Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Texas rig! I have plenty other techniques in wich i have confidence but at the end of the day the T-rig is allways the one i like the most, with jigs being a close second, there´s nothing better for me like feeling a bite and setting the hook... 3 Quote
Jaderose Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Froggin. 2 types of fishing for me. Froggin and everything else. 4 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted May 2, 2017 Super User Posted May 2, 2017 I will say "finesse" as a group. I have at times had 5 rods rigged different ways with 5 inch Senkos on my deck at once. 1 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted May 2, 2017 Super User Posted May 2, 2017 Truly kicking off my bass season on Sunday. Do have some bad weather moving in. I'll have to deal with whatever is dealt to me. But I feel it will most likely be on a Rat L Trap or a Rapala jerkbait of some type. I picked up on this pattern over the winter (carbon). I'm hot to use it. If that doesn't do it maybe one of the old standbys will. Quote

ThePolkFolk Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Good question @Adleyfishes. Half of my bites are feel-bites where I either feel the tap or feel weight on the line. The other half is seeing the line move off in an unnatural direction. In my personal opinion I don't feel that the yellow line drives off any fish so I use it to make it easier to see. 8 Quote

riverbasser Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Just now, Fishin' Fool said: On your first technique you mentioned, is it a steady retrieve or fast retrieve? depends on the day both of those worms work well when swam just above the bottom, always rig tail down and they mimic a paddle tail, most days they want it even slower though just pulled with rod and bringing up slack with reel like you would work a lizard or creature bait Quote
Super User Darren. Posted May 2, 2017 Super User Posted May 2, 2017 I would have told you a wacky rigged senko in the past. Then a drop shot the last 6 months. The last several outings? Ned rig on 2 - 3 spinning rods, all under 6'6" with 6, 8, or 10# fluoro or YZH. 1/5 oz weedless, and 1/20 oz weedless jigs. Colors? Take your pick, but junebug is quite good. Sunday late afternoon until sunset, heavy wind, much tougher bite than I anticipated. No takers on TX, wacky. Didn't have a drop shot tied on. Two Ned rigs, lost 3 nice fish near the boat, which hit my confidence in the ML rod I was using at the time...but I persisted. Ended up with a 2, 2.2, 2.6, a 3, and a 4 pounder before heading in. Time of day clearly played a part, as those came as wind died down, but the Ned produced. 2 Quote
LuckyHandsINC. Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 I love dragging a football head along rocky bottoms. Feeling all sorts of stuff going on down there, then bam, fish on. 3 Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted May 2, 2017 Super User Posted May 2, 2017 This one can be all over the board because there are SO many possible scenario's. BUT for the early spring in flats, I will often go to a jerk bait (such as a Shadow Shad Rap) and fish as slowly (pauses) as the water temp dictates. I've done so well it's difficult to try anything else. 1 Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted May 2, 2017 Super User Posted May 2, 2017 On the River Plastic - Yum Crawbug on a slider head Crank - Bandit 100 Lakes Plastic - Tube or 5" Kalins grub on a slider head Crank - RES, Bandit Flat Maxx and 100, and Norman Deep Little N have been my #1s for a while trying to expand that list trying more baits 1 Quote
