The Kangler Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 I'm hoping to get some help deciding which reel to use for my deep cranking rod. I have a Lews BB1 Pro, an Abu Revo Premier, and a Abu Orra Winch. Which do you guys think will best handle the rigors of deep cranking best? Don't want to prematurely wear any of them out if possible. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted May 2, 2017 Super User Posted May 2, 2017 Given what your price range looks like, I'd recommend finding a used Chronarch E5. If you're dead set on one of those three, then I'd go with the Orra Winch. Quote
Poolshark Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 The Ora winch was designed for deep crankbaits. Depending on the gear ratio the bb1 is a solid deep cranking reel as well. Quote
Robert Riley Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 Are you looking to buy a new one? I'd use the BB1 Pro over the Winch, but that is under the assumption that they have the same gear ratio. Quote
The Kangler Posted May 3, 2017 Author Posted May 3, 2017 I should have been more clear. I already own all 3, and all of them are a 5.*:1 gear ratio. The BB1 pro is my favorite reel, but I would prefer to use it on shallow cranks if deep cranks would wear it out faster. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 3, 2017 Super User Posted May 3, 2017 Go with a Curado 200I 5.5:1. However as others have said, if you can find a used Chronarch E or Curado E, even better. Quote

Damn Yankee Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Imho! I would use the lews, well built and sturdy. Quote
mwh33 Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Shimano Conquest 200 hg paired with a dobyns 805cb for me. Quote
tbone1993 Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 I would change it up depending on the time of the year. Spring/ fall when you're throwing shallow cranks I would use that bb1 pro then deep summer when you toss those big baits I would put it on your big stick. I use a bb1 pro and gen 2 revo winch for my deep cranks. Even if the reel gets worn out it isn't but $60 in parts to get back to better than new condition. Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 The Orra winch is made for deep cranking. I just picked up a Revo Winch (currently on sale all over and can be had with ridiculous discounts) and I've been very pleasantly surprised. It casts an absolute mile. While I haven't throw anything running 15'+ on it yet, it's smooth and feels great. If you aren't going to buy a new reel, the Orra is ideal. I have a BB1 that I like for shallower crankbaits in a 6.3:1 ( I think) ratio. The Revo Winch just feels like a much better, more consistently handling reel (thus far). Quote
