Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 21, 2019 Super User Posted March 21, 2019 Sweet pic @Bluebasser86! Man I miss those days sometimes. My daughter is graduating HS this year and my son will be entering next year. Enjoy these time while you can, believe me, you'll miss it. If I may be a proud dad and brag, my daughter is graduating with high honors. I'd post a pic of the certificate but she asked me not to for whatever reason. Still proud as can be for her. Great kids you have there blue 4 2 Quote
Harold Scoggins Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Retired Army SFC Michael Burk had no family to see him off to the "Last Roll Call" yesterday at the Fort Sill National Cemetery near Elgin, Ok. As it turns out, hundreds of folks showed up, including a group of us old retired war horses to see Mike off. A soldier is never alone. 10 1 Quote

Harold Scoggins Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 If you were ever the holder of this card, it meant you just got paid and you were coming off the line for a 3 day weekend. 5 Quote

I'd forgotten all about liberty cards. We had them in the Navy, also. The Chief would hold them until knock-off and collect them again at morning muster. 1 Quote

Harold Scoggins Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 March 23, 1994, twenty-four Army paratroopers were lost when a F16 fighter collided with a C141 on the "Green Ramp," North Carolina. You are not forgotten. 1 3 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted March 23, 2019 Super User Posted March 23, 2019 There is a pair of eagles close to one of the lakes I fish. I think these two nest down here year round. I took this pic in October with the cellphone. 8 Quote

A-Jay I’m amazed they still have their headgear on, usually they lose them well before the whitetails do which around here is usually right around Christmas. 1 Quote

It's pretty intense - especially if he's close. We hear them occasionally while out on the trail with the dogs. The dogs know they're around way before we do. There is that 'elk park' on the east side of Gaylord right near the Road Commission facility. It's an overlook down over a big piece of elk woods. There's almost always a few there as people feed them all the time. It's fenced off from town to keep them from strolling the streets. (the elk, not the people - ?) When I was initially looking at my house with the realtor, he told me about the local herd and that I'd probably be able to hear them. I thought "yea - Right'. Turns out he wasn't just 'working the new guy for a sale'. A-Jay 3 Quote
Way north bass guy Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 Took a walk along the lake by our house today. The hillside has melted/flooded and now refroze to create an icy forest. Pics don’t really do it justice, it’s a pretty cool looking thing. In this part of the world, we have some pretty cool looking exposed rock. There’s so much of the Canadian Shield around here, and you drive by it all the time but never seem to take the time to have a good look at it. My profession is a stonemason, so I tend to notice the more abnormal and colourful rocks more than a lot of folks. 5 Quote

Harold Scoggins Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 In 1945, Marine Gunnery Sgt. Robert Van Camp carried a small, 48-star American flag in his pocket during the Battle of Iwo Jima. This weekend, his son, retired Marine Captain Robert W. Van Camp brought the same flag to an annual remembrance ceremony on the island, which also drew a dozen of the dwindling number of U.S. veterans of the battle. His father was wounded during the battle. (Photos, Stars and Stripes) 6 1 Quote
Super User Koz Posted March 26, 2019 Super User Posted March 26, 2019 My son has had a rough go of things lately battling anxiety and teenage hormones. To make matters worse he went o for 2 games at the plate and had his turn in the rotation skipped due to a sore arm. But he came out of his slump today going 1-2 with a line out to SS in his first at bat and then he doubled with the bases loaded driving in all three runners. Hopefully this helps him start to turn the corner in more ways than just baseball. 6 1 Quote

Gave it up when some of parents started getting verbally abusive towards the kids. I do miss it. Quote
