MichaelCopeland Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 In my profile on here it states my PB as being 2-3lbs. That's just for bass purposes. Here's me with my all around PB. A 28" fork length 20lb. North American Paddlefish aka Spoonbill Catfish. It's not a catfish though. Believe it or not, I caught this a couple months or so ago at a dam known as Diversion Canal in La Salle Parish, Louisiana on my $20 Wal Mart 6' Matzuo medium spinning rod using 14lb. Trilene XT line using an 1/8oz crappie jig. Still can't believe it didn't break my rod, but I think it did damage the reel some. The handle sticks now when reeling in. 7 Quote

GrumpyOlPhartte Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 @MichaelCopeland: You caught that on a six-inch rod? Dang! Would love to see the reel you were using. (Sorry - I couldn't resist. Heckuva fish though ... on ANY rod!) Good job! 1 Quote

A-Jay I watched those videos in the other thread and then remembered I had this pic. Happened on a stretch of river near the house, that I was familiar with, maybe 7 or 8 years ago. Water was low and i had 2 buddies in the boat. Actually got stuck on a rock/sand bar and had to get out of the boat to float it off. One of those cases where I zigged when I should have zagged. 2 Quote

Back as 'a professional', I shined a few screws in the sand. And although we had to navigate some outrageously rocky stuff (especially off New England) I was Very Lucky in that I managed to stay out of 'The Captain Crunch Club' - our name for a bottom bouncer. Those are always slow & painful rides back to the barn . . . . A-Jay 5 Quote

GrumpyOlPhartte Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 @MichaelCopeland:. No sarcasm intended, just my warped sense of humor kicking in. I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't been so impressed with that beast and was curious to see what you were using when you caught it. I should thank you for posting what to me is a very interesting pic! 1 Quote

I should thank you for posting what to me is a very interesting pic! It's all good. I have a warped sense of humor with a bit of sarcasm myself. So it doesn't bother me at all. I'm glad you pointed out my type-o, otherwise it may have mind boggled alot of folks...lol. She was a tough cookie to get in by myself. A guy that was fishing near me offered me a hand getting her in. Paddlefish are endangered in most of the U.S.A., however there's a few states where they're are not and it's legal to catch and keep. Here in Louisiana you're allowed 2 per person no longer than 30" fork length and they have to be dead to transport them to keep you from trying to populate another area. If you ever get a chance, you gotta eat some. All white meat and no bones just a cartilage backbone. Very good eatin'! 2 Quote

kylek Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Fished at the in-laws last night with my 6 year old. She caught these all on her own on a top water popping bait. She uses a 5 ft ultra light spinning rod. You should have seen the bend in her rod!! Sorry for the 2 pics today.. had to show off both of her fish! 7 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted July 31, 2017 Super User Posted July 31, 2017 Ha! My Bailey will not go in the snow. I have to keep her bathroom shoveled and ice free, and carry her to the truck, if we're going somewhere. Otherwise, she acts like her legs are broken. It's pretty funny and pathetic. 2 Quote
