this just off the grill...a7PA250005.JPG

Shared with my folks (just up the road) who made it a feast, with homemade Spanish rice, green beans, and my mom's banana pudding, which is beyond anyone else's.

Not only that, they only ate half their skin-on grill-blackened redfish fillets, and will still be eating them tomorrow, so they sent me home with half the banana pudding.

Never had redfish, but only like white flakey type fish grilled......to say that looks good is an understatement.

Picking that white flakey meat off a Red Snapper or Grouper....heck even a Rainbow Trout is so tasty.

@AlabamaSpothunter - we actually covered this on a different thread (Other Species Latest Catch).

Texas redfish slot, 20-28" are too big to pan blacken.  I used to release them or give them all away until my buddy Josh taught me about grilling half-shell fillets

I'm now a grill-blackened redfish junkie.

Two things happen on half-shell fillets.

You brown the meat side first, and all the vitamin A moves down from the skin, making the meat sweet.  Keeping the meat from sticking is a trick, but a couple of extra coats of grill oil spray, making the fire flare right before you lay them down really helps.  When you flip them skin side down, they pretty much can't dry out on the grill.

"picking the charred meat from the ribs was the best part"

Yep, that's what I love too.    It's the polar opposite of Tuna, or Swordfish for example....I just don't like that type of fish meat.

Yeah according to @TnRiver46

I think they are neater of the two.   Thing can dive underwater for some time.

Yes, they can.  They are nasty, stinky birds though.  Years ago they were legal to hunt during waterfowl season here.  My Grandfather had a big Chesapeake Bay retriever hunting dog that would retrieve anything in any conditions.  Well one time he shot a cormorant and that dog swam out there, picked it up, and spit it back out.  He said its the only time in 10 years that dog refused to retrieve a bird.  LOL

Sweet pic

I love pics like that where you can see the sky perfectly mirrored in a still calm water surface.

One day I'd like to get a really nice camera.   An idiot one, or one that automatically knows the right settings, not looking for another hobby, but love taking pics

My dad has 2 red tail hawks that occupy his balcony railing during the evening when they are looking for dinner. I happened to be at his condo one time when one of them was perched outside.  A very astute looking bird and much larger looking up close and personal.

And most guys post pics of the sunrise and sunset when they get skunked. I'm guilty of it as well.

I feel like it lends a certain gravitas, maybe, if you squint real hard and turn your head just right.

We planted the first of our winter crops in the new greenhouse a couple weeks ago. They are coming up quite nicely! First pic is peas, next pics are a mix of lettuces and salad greens. It’ll be nice to go out in the middle of winter when it’s -30 outside with 3’ of snow, and get a bowl full of fresh greens.

At first I didn’t even see a bird……… I was going to say loblolly pine tree……..

I’m almost wanting to guess Osprey but it’s hard to see

did it slam into the water and catch a fish? Make any noises?

No, and it wasn't really bothered by me like the many, many Hawks we have around here.   It's also bigger than any Hawk I've seen around here.    It cleaned itself, and then just flew off no diving.

Hope it's an Osprey, I can add that to the list of species on the lake.    You the man, didn't even consider that.   Only really just started paying attention to all these creatures as I want to learn all the diversity on the lake.

Now I got competition from three fish eaters lol

For what it's worth, what I can see of it looks osprey-ish. Can't see its head very well, though. They're good-sized birds, but smaller than eagles.

Here's a better look at one. Note the stripes going back from its eyes:
