Way north bass guy Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 Yesterday I went on my annual boys weekend snowmobile run. Usually we stay at our buddies hunt camp for the weekend, just hanging out at nights and spending the entire day in the thousands of acres of bush going pretty much wherever we want to. Most years there’s around a half dozen guys in total. This year with all the COVID stuff going on, we decided to just do a one day run, that way nobody is cooped up for two nights in a very tight space. Wasn't quite the same as years past, but it was still a great day to be out with 6 other buddies, and there’s always next winter for doing the weekend thing. 7 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 22, 2021 Global Moderator Posted February 22, 2021 I tried on a mostly still frozen warm water lake, but fish use to warm water apparently don't like it when it suddenly gets cold. 10 Quote

Smells like fish Posted March 4, 2021 Posted March 4, 2021 Had a rat at our cabin in the woods. I gave him a .380 headache. At the value of ammunition currently, that dirty rat wasn’t worth killing ? 4 Quote

My most-long-haired shootist friend, intentionally hasn't killed a deer in years - he just likes being out in the cold before first light and watching the day develop. He does shoot feral hogs and gives them away (in advance) on craigslist. This past fall, though, his lease had a rat infestation after the deer corn. His "deer hunting" ritual switched to nailing dozens of rats at distance with .17 HMR. photo a day, my daughter popping cans across a pond with my '85 .22 field artillery if you've ever shot these, they're a hoot - the thud is louder than the retort, and delayed by the subsonic distance. 4 Quote
Tim Kelly Posted March 4, 2021 Posted March 4, 2021 Talking of rats, our Patterdale had been sniffing round the compost heap a fair bit recently, so we made sure she was on duty when we turned the heap. Talk about keen! I was gradually digging out the bottom of the heap and she kept diving in. Eventually she dived in and came out shaking ratty. Ratty didn't last very long at all, and the terrier was extremely happy. Turning the compost heap has never been so much fun! 9 Quote

We didn't celebrate the holidays for obvious reasons which really dampened their spirits. Fortunately we have summer vacation homes a block away from each other so hopefully we'll be able to make up for some lost time. I feel for you bud, I'm close to my parents as I'm sure you are(if your mom is still alive that is)/were. 2 Quote

I feel for you bud, I'm close to my parents as I'm sure you are(if your mom is still alive that is)/were. Thanks @Jigfishn10 for the kind words. My Dad was 75. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 Esophageal Cancer back in September of 2020. He was given 5-6 months to live. The cancer metastasized to his bones and so he started breaking bones in his arm and leg doing basic things. The bone cancer was very painful and at the end (thankfully to hospice) we were able to keep him comfortable with drugs but they basically turned him into a zombie. It's hard seeing your Dad/or anybody in that shape. My Mom's still alive. She married my Dad when she was 16 and he was 18 (pretty normal in AR). They were married over 57 years. The hard thing for me now is still processing that he's gone. We were very close (spoke every day). He was a good Christian man and I know he's in a better place but I still miss him and probably always will. 6 Quote
