Way north bass guy Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 Spent all yesterday morning digging a ditch behind our house to install a French drain. We have a huge hill just behind the yard that diverts all the spring snow melt pretty much right to our house, and yesterday was maybe the last dry, semi warm day to rent the excavator. Took about 45 min to dig the ditch and 3 hours to clear and wheel by hand all the wet clay off the yard. Was a good workout for sure. Today I spent the morning installing drainage pipe and about 4 yds of clear stone, and it rained hard the whole time so the new ditch got “broke in” real quick?. 8 Quote

And last week while deer hunting, there were bear tracks all over the place in the bush, I even had one come running right at me. I had to yell at him three times before he finally turned away from me, at about 10 yds. I was about a 1/4 second from squeezing the trigger on that one. I’ve never seen so many bears still awake this late in the year before, especially with the early, cold, snowy falls we’ve had the last two years. Some guy got charged with wreckless endangerment in Gatlinburg recently for shooting a bear 6 times. Also ironically at a motel 6 haha. I don’t know the exact details but I feel like when it comes to bears, you should be allowed to use your own judgement. The bear just ran away Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted November 28, 2019 Super User Posted November 28, 2019 After an incredibly dry fall and drawn out fire season full of extended "safety" power outages, we finally got to say goodbye to all of that by going straight to winter last night. 5 Quote

Way north bass guy Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 Today was our last “outdoor harvest” day before everything is covered with snow, perhaps for the winter. As you can see, the garden has a touch of frost on the top. Made for easy picking though, just lift a 2’ square section of “crust” and pop all the carrots out ?. 6 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted December 1, 2019 Super User Posted December 1, 2019 Rarely a good thing when we get a heavy, wet snow before the oaks lose all of their leaves... 6 Quote

Sorry to see that. Been there though and before we realized it we had 4 malamutes and 2 huskies running free in the woods. Took a while to round them up. We called it The Great Escape. USAA covered it. The fence not the round up. A-Jay 2 Quote
