Super User A-Jay Posted Thursday at 02:50 PM Super User Posted Thursday at 02:50 PM A pair of pileated woodpeckers doing their thing in the side yard. These guys are one of the few year round residents up here. Pretty hearty birds. A-Jay 9 Quote

Pretty birds but they sure cause problems. Riggins has been loving our snow the past couple days. His focus on soft packed snowballs brings back bad memories of the days of Andy Pettitte dominating the Sox and the rest of baseball for a few years. 2 Quote
BayouSlide Posted Friday at 04:08 PM Posted Friday at 04:08 PM I was getting gear out of the boat near the ramp after an unsuccessful fishing outing when I saw this guy heading under my trailer. So I got skunked but glad I didn't get bit 😄👍 4 Quote

Johnbt Posted Saturday at 01:30 PM Posted Saturday at 01:30 PM Sure, we're only a third of a mile from the tidal James River below Richmond, but we're 90 feet above sea level near Chaffin's Bluff and Jimmy Dean's place. And the Henrico boat landing fwiw. You can't see the two inches of standing water covering most of the backyard. The water in our shallow well is 20' down and the soil is all clay and silt with poor drainage during a downpour. But the deer, turkey and eagles love the deer woods and the yard. The hawks and eagles love the rabbits mostly. This is a first. 4 Quote

If he's looking skinny, I don't want to meet him once he's fattened up 😁 The way he was moving made me think he had a rodent or two on board! I've got used to close encounters of the pit viper kind bird hunting every September in Montana, but this timber rattler's size put those prairie rattlers to shame! Biggest I've ever seen alive or dead. And that camo is perfect for all the pine duff in Louisiana's central piney woods. 3 Quote

Johnbt Posted Sunday at 12:14 PM Posted Sunday at 12:14 PM My wife doesn't like the snakes that come up to the house to shed in the sun. The lower end of the house has a strip of woods with a little creek that runs down the center. It goes under the road and eventually into the James River. 2 Quote

My Mother is deathly afraid of them. The only snakes we have here are harmless garter snakes that are as thick as a pencil. When she sees one, she grabs a pointed metal shovel and starts violently hacking away lol. 1 Quote
