Teaching him it’s called fishing and not catching! That’s what it’s all about.

On the way up to the lake we passed the Volo Auto Museum which, if you've never been,  it is a must see, when visiting Northern IL.   https://www.volocars.com/ As we drive by, they have a Batmobile, life size dinosaurs, and some other cars out front. "Can we go there sometime?" I reminded him we were there last year for the grand opening of the dinosaur park. "Can you take me again?"

So after my first 3 spots are a no go because of ice, I went to the dam. Asked some fisherman where the closest bait shop was and if the had caught anything. They said they hadn't caught anything. I asked Eric if he still wanted to fish or if he wanted to see the dinosaurs. Said he wanted to fish so we got some bait and went back to the dam. I was sure he was going to opt for the dinosaurs.

Figured everything would be hard water this time of year and left the fly rod at home. Must be a spring around that spot because the rivers were iced over even at the lower elevations on the way to that spot in the canyon. Missed opportunity!

Wife put out her ‘nutcrackers’ this afternoon so I put one in ‘the position’ and took a picture of it. She didn’t find it funny but I thought it was hilarious. ? ?

Last Sunday was a rare day that I spent most of the day at home just hanging around the house. Spent a lot of time on the couch trying to get over whatever stomach bug kept me out from Wednesday evening on. Watched a lot of football and our younger dog Chloe doesn't ever want to leave my side when I'm at home. I'd eaten a sandwich in 4 days, muscles were cramping from dehydration. I think she was trying to make sure I was okay.

6 months ago my wife and I adopted this guy. The name given to him by the shelter was River. I am a river rat at heart so we figured it was a sign. He was a stray for two years and spent about 8 months in the shelter life. He used to rip any kind of food right out of our hands and scarf it. Now he licks ice cream from a dish. The hurdles we have over come with him. C7D54851-90E9-4CA3-80AC-9D6ED83C6ECA.thumb.jpeg.381bdc474e47f0d73636f09f0e9d8798.jpeg

That’s too cool! Our puppy is also named River! We love him more than anything. He actually looks somewhat similar, just a shade darker. I’ll post a picture as soon as I can resize it.

Took a walk down to my little stretch of backyard river this afternoon. All the bass in this little part are now tucked away in their weed beds for a long winters nap ?

Here's our River boy, only sideways hahah or at least the image is on my screen. I can't seem to get it to work correctly. I have such difficulty on this site posting photos.

I moved in May and until recently I had not gotten a good visual on the deer that have been leaving tracks in the area around my suburb property.  That changed last night right at dusk.  6 anterless deer were in the yard across the street, and then a couple walked through my front yard and up the road.  Not the greatest photos through the front bay window, but you can at least see them.  I know a lot of people don't think that seeing deer are anything special, but I do.  My 4 year old boy was glued to the window watching them.  Hope to see them more often in the future too.

I've been in the woods watching wildlife since I was a toddler.  Now I'm 53 and I still love it.  My wife can tell you how thrilled I am when I've been fishing and got to watch a bald eagle.  Every.  Single.  Time.

Arrived at the pond today just as the last few sheets of skim ice were breaking free from the bank and melting as they drifted off in the breezy open water.

He's going to be trouble. Hope you get him in line for his next owner.
