Here’s the true definition of a helicopter parent. We’re at football practice and one of our friends is getting his weekly night flight  training in and decided to check in on his son.

About a dozen people swimming right up the middle Of the river accompanied by a German shepherd. Not the smartest thing I’ve seen, my game warden buddies told me it’s their own fault if they get ran over. I came within about 50 yards of one of them a few days before this photo before I realized what it was and I was going 1.76 mph. There are big barges and tons of ski boats that go right through there. I think there was an open water swimmer that got hit by a boat last year and drowned

Geez…. Really?   That’s the dumbest thing I’ve seen in while.

I worry about hitting kayakers where the their boat, life jacket, and cap are all the same color as the water.  
 

Swimmers?  I don’t know how you’re supposed to avoid those fools.

It was 2 days in a row also. The guy I encountered earlier was all alone, no fellow swimmers in sight . Just the little bay watch sized floatie 

 

i would rather not see accidents or drownings, I feel like they need to swim near a pilot boat or something

Staying the night at my father in laws place in the philippines, the gekos are crawling around the rafters where the lights are hanging looking for bugs and mosquitoes.

They are welcome in the house as the philippinoes consider them good luck and bug controllers.

Right above where i sleep i watch them. Yes i am sleeping on a bamboo slatted raised floor about 2 feet off the ground, good for ventilation but hard on your body.

Dont even think about sleeping on your side as its hard on the shoulders and hip bones.

this guy ate the protein and everything in site, then he got slaughtered and divided up to families.

Dont let the photos bum you out, this is how its done in the philippines, all the kids grow up in this type of environment. The kids are looking forward to the big feast later in the day as this is new years day and all will partake in this feast of celabration of the new year.

This pot he did not end up in, the pot is used to boil water and after the hog is dead the water is poured on the hog to burn the hair off.

That would have had me shrieking and off the toilet asap. Here is a spider that was attached to my pants leg.

I didnt scream but i did kinda like a loud AAAAAHHHHHHHHH get it OFF me as everyone stood and looked at me while it was crawling on my pants leg.

I was trying to shake it off but it was on me like velcro. Finally a guy came over and pulled it off. Its a huntsman spider and they get very big in the philippines.

You should quit missing the log.  I remember what my dad used to say every time I missed a log when I was splitting kindling.?

I bet I know!! There was even a rubber guard on the neck that I took off yesterday. I swear that axe head was loose so I bought a new handle. After a short chopping session I can't get the old handle out now haha. (Then again I didn't try really hard yet. It was kind of late and noisy when I tried last night)

I think that's a pretty common comment coming from country folk.  I'd answer, 'no, but I'm hoping it will soon.'  Never got old, and he'd of course say the same thing when I missed a nail or a fence post with the sledge.

 

Good luck getting the handle off.  I know I've gotten punches stuck in those things trying to drive the little wedges out that I thought I was never going to get unstuck.

Ive been accused of swinging the "lightning hammer" many times, never strikes the same place twice. Also trying to line up screws and bolts in pilot holes always brought up some classic one liners.

That axe is almost as old as one I had. Replaced the handle twice and the head once.

Turns out I think I could have used it for another 2-3 years ! I wailed on it for a while trying to get the old handle out and it moved about an inch or so. Eventually I just chiseled the old handle away.  But safety first when swinging an axe I suppose !
