Also, one of the guys in the conversation was from Georgia (his wife is from upstate NY).  He didn't have much good to say about the Genesee Cream Ale I was drinking, or Genesee beers in general, and was very surprised to find out that the J.W. Dundee Honey Brown Ale he said he and his father enjoyed so much was a Genesee product.

Why in this photo does the guy - top right hand side @ 1:00 - stab his food, is it not dead yet? ?

Actually, a closer look will show that his fork is sticking out of the top of his fist, not the bottom.  The food was plenty dead.  ?

 

Just one of those times a photo catches a gesture or freezes a movement or moment.  (That's the magic of photography: it freezes an instant in time forever!)

That photo was taken at the table of my buddy's cottage on Cape Cod.  The guys in the photo were from MA, NY, CA and CO, and all there enjoying a striper fishing vacation.  

 

Lots of older guys will recognize the old Welch's grape jelly jar being used as a beer glass in the photo.  They were intended for re-use as drinking glasses.  They had a pry-off top you removed with a cap lifter.  Those were a very popular type of summer home glassware in the past.  And folks think recycling is a modern idea!  ?

Now that you pointed it out, I do remember those old jelly jars. Ha! Perfect!

We have a bunch old mason jars we make drinks in at our summer cottage. 

Must be a Yankee Thrift thing. Oops, probably shouldn't use that here...LOL

He'd also be surprised that most of the Boston Brewing Company's beers that are sold in this area are made there.  Granted, it's bottled under license and using their equipment, ingredients and water, but much Coca-Cola or Pepsi-Cola, they really just franchises.  Read the label and you'll see something like "bottled under license."

 

Also, he clearly has no taste buds.  Honey Brown is liquid poop.  He probably thinks cilantro tastes like soap too.

   My parents were married at the beginning of the Depression. Modern recycling doesn't even begin to approach the level of non-waste and re-use that people practiced in those days!         jj

they have plastic utensils for the tourists now, but the first time I visited Smitty's Market in Lockhart, it was different.  They had a pulpit on the wall with a butcher knife on a chain.  

If you didn't bring your pocket knife, Everybody knew you weren't from here.

No picture but got to meet MLF pro Brent Chapman today.  Saw him while shoppin at Cabelas, and went up and introduced myself.  Super nice guy.

First train ride. He's been asking to go on a train for a few weeks now. I think tomorrow we will be going to the world's largest train museum, which is about 45 minutes west of me. They're having a big to-do with an antique car show and running old steam engines.

My wife was watering her flowers when I got home from my tournament Saturday evening. I'd driven a lot of dirt roads, so my kayak was really dusty. I was going to spray it off but my 4 year old wanted to help me. 10 minutes of being home and my kayak was getting washed for me. I paid him $5 for helping me out ?
