Super User bulldog1935 Posted May 12, 2021 Super User Posted May 12, 2021 tomorrow morning, after a 3-mi paddle across the flat, I'll be on this sunrise with the same wind and tide... When we got to the cut below last Oct, bait was so thick they were thumping our boat hulls. The combination of outgoing tide current with incoming wind current creates an eddy that stacks the bait. 5 Quote

I’ve only seen one patch of lily pads within 2 hours of my house in my entire life Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 12, 2021 Super User Posted May 12, 2021 Spraying is so much worse. You add poison AND all those stored nutrients back into the water when you kill the plants, which just ends up causing algae blooms. 1 Quote

Algae blooms happen all the time on our lake, so much so they added two more sprays last year because the blooms were so bad. ? Quote
Smells like fish Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 The 3-4” cats we put 25 of these last spring and this is the first one we’ve saw since last Fall. He couldn’t resist a Berkeley Powerbait grub. Growing nicely! 5 Quote

Completely ruined a couple lakes and the ones that aren't dead have such bad algae blooms that they're almost unfishable during a lot of the year. 2 Quote

They've totally killed some lakes around here by over harvesting. I can see harvesting around docks that are in use, but some areas they run them it just doesn't make sense. Also a ton of fish make it up that escalator and into the hopper to become fertilizer. I'm convinced many of them are entire year classes of young bass. 1 1 Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted May 15, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 15, 2021 Date night with the wife. She’s dog sitting for an older couple and they said we could fish off their dock, so of course we did. Both of us are finally on the bass board. We both caught our first bass of 2021 at the same time. Nothing to write home about, but they were bass. 8 Quote

Super User bulldog1935 Posted May 15, 2021 Super User Posted May 15, 2021 Fulton Beach Pier is back - it was destroyed by Hurricane Harvey. When my daughters were growing up, it was a ritual - dinner at Cap'n Benny's, fish Fulton Beach Pier for an hour, a cigar, and catch 40 nursery trout, then ice cream. It's where I honed UL skills for nite-lite specs. Lou and I just came back from a fun, though dues-paying Rockport/Estes trip 3 Quote
