Was this an error on the website that they honored? I just can't see selling a premier for 114.99. Thats a heck of a deal even for an STX. I've never used a premier, but i do have the MGX which has the centrifugal brakes like the premier... I think the only difference is the spool capacity and weight but they are pretty dang close.

It wasn't a mistake. It was up for almost 2 days.

I'm thinking they're clearing out inventory for gen 4 Revo and 3.0 veritas models.

Yeah, a lot of places have the gen 3's on sale, but I'm not sure why they didn't just keep the same sale price, unless demand was so high that they jacked up the price. Oh well...

I'm an Abu guy all the way. Sign up for their e-mail. 90% of the time their e-mails are junk but they sent me 4 e-mails about this sale. I didn't look through it because I'm tapped out. After reading these posts I wish I would've read earlier, I'd collect cans along the road to take advantage of some of the deals they had! Lol

LOL, I'm on their list and like you said, most of their deals are junk anyways so I never pay attention...it's my own fault.

Received my premier and 2 veritas rods today. Put the premier on my Dobyns 736cb and thru a few casts during lunch. still have to fine tune the reel but It performed really well. For $115 I think I did ok.

I got one of the Premiers today.  Looks and feels great.  Especially for $115!   The other premier and the Orra Winch won't arrive until Monday.  Guess I will call in sick and go fishing Tuesday.  lol

Nice! My Premier comes Monday.  Kinda wish I woulda bought a couple STX's to replace a couple older reels.

I missed the sale but those that scored the premier got a great deal. I'm happy with mine at $219. They are an under appreciated reel. I'm not the biggest ABU fan but the MGX and the Premier are both really good Baitcasters.

Premier arrived and looking forward to spooling it. Smooth feeling reel for sure. Thanks guys who have experience with the premiers for your perspectives.  I thought for $115 it's worth a try.

Just saw that Abu Garcia is having a summer sale on their website.  A good amount are already out of stock but still some good stuff there.  https://www.abugarcia.com/

Hear are two that I thought were great.  I ordered two rods right away.

Revo SX for $59.99

Veritas 2.0 $32.00

 Thanks,just ordered an STX

One thing I immediately noticed is the Revo Premier doesn't free spool NEARLY as long as my BB1 Pro's.  Does that even mater when actually fishing?

Try Gander Mountain.   The store near me is going out of business (Maybe all are?) and they had some GL2's on sale for about 30% off.   Almost grabbed one today but I'm broke from the ABU sale.  lol

Lol, I just got back from my Gander Mountain. They seem optimistic that they'll be one of the stores still in business. Sales were only 10%. Might increase in the summer.

If the 4 rods you sent me make it early enough Tuesday, I will definitely be hitting the water.  Thanks for the trade!

Hopefully they do! I'm looking to get out next Saturday to play with the new gear.  I'm actually not crazy about the new premier lol.  Got it yesterday.  It doesn't feel like a $300 reel.  The knobs are nice though.

Abu typically over oils and over grease's their reels. If you flush the bearings and re-lube with a drop of good reel oil it will free spool for a loooong time. Helps pitching more then overhand casting. Really great all purpose reel, light but can be a beast

Will be honest. Right out of the box I felt the same way about the lack of free spool.  Also you can hear the bearings a bit.

I lubed and spooled it up.  Just threw some plugs in the yard.

ummm....yeah, this one's a keeper.  Super easy to cast with tons of control. And casts plenty far....and I won't say a country mile as I have no idea how long that is.

Real test will will be on the water...and hooking into a hawg.  Looking forward to that.

Yeah, I really need to flush the bearings on all my reels.  I just keep buying reels and rods and never have the cash for spool pin pliers.  Maybe next week.  Unless another sale pops up! Anyone know a SAFE way to remove a spool pin without dropping $40 on pliers?  I know I know, quit being a tight a**.  lol

I really didn't think it felt like $300 either.  The Orra Winch actually felt more solid to me, but that could just be because its heavier.  The winch doesn't free spool any better though.

After flushing, do you recommend the oil Abu sent, or something else?

Posted

One small drop of the Abu oil would be fine. Anyone with doubts on this reel just read the tackle tour review, very high grades at the 300 price point, for $160?its a steal. Great brake system also, same as the mgx and you can actually find a decent amount of upgrade tuning parts

Only mistake I made was not buying a second abu premier.

Not gonna lie...out of the box, I was disappointed that I could hear the bearings turn as it didn't seem to be smooth or free spool that well.

Must have been the way they packed the grease into the bearings.  During my first outing with it, there was a point where it seemed a bit noisier...then soon after something clicked and it has become buttery smooth ever since.

Probably my favorite so far in terms of cast control.  Several 18-20 in bass landed so far...so might start to be my lucky reel as well...ha!

I totally agree with you.  My second outing with it was quite nice.  I really got it dialed in.  Great cast control, super smooth, and comfortable.  I think Cabelas has them online for $180 right now.
