WildmanWilson Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 I feed my cat fish floating catfish food and they love it. So anyone thought of a way to make catfish bait from it? Maybe grinding it and making a dough bait? The river fish here are caught by the thousands when the graineries load grain onto barges. Seems it may work if I can figure how to get it on a hook. Quote

I've heard of guys tying pieces to hooks or you can use a piece of pantyhose with some of the food in the middle. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted May 2, 2017 Super User Posted May 2, 2017 I do it . I have a hard time getting the commercial food/dough to ball stick on a hook so I mix it about 50/50 with Wheaties . It works pretty well . Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted May 5, 2017 Super User Posted May 5, 2017 Tiny dot of glue to hold the hook to the bait. Just make a bunch of them before you fish. However, they will wise up quick getting caught and fed at the same time! Quote
WildmanWilson Posted May 5, 2017 Author Posted May 5, 2017 I'm not trying to catch the ones I feed. I was wanting to make a bait out of to use in rivers and lakes I fish. Quote

Like i said with the floating food by itself ,it doesnt make a good doughball , the Wheaties helps it to stick together . I've used water , juice from canned corn and beer for the liquid . Quote

Super User JustJames Posted January 8, 2018 Super User Posted January 8, 2018 I used to make a dough that mix with all kind of thing like cheese, cat food oak meals. Corn meals peanut butter. Mostly for carp but very often I caught catfish with this dough. The only concern is how to make this dough stick on your hook/treble hook. to make dough a simplest way is to use white bread, tears into small pieces add a little liquid or vanilla extract add whatever ingredient you wanna mix in. Look up how to make a dough for carp. Quote
