Cody Barber Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 I was thinking about getting a Dobyns Fury casting rod in a 7 medium heavy with a Shimano Casitas 6.3:1 gear ratio I just started fishing last summer and want to get a good baitcasting reel and rod need help deciding if that would be a good fit or not thanks Quote
Mark888 Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 a 7ft medium heavy is a great all around bait casting rod, it wold cover most applications. i would go with a 7 gear ratio casitas though. 2 Quote
Fishingmickey Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 The Casitas and Fury is a excellent combo choice in my humble opinion! Agree with Ladybass though, 7.2:1 is spot on unless your planning on using deep crank baits a lot. Then go with the 6.3:1. Fishingmickey 2 Quote
NathanDLTH Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 My first combo was a 7:1:1 Promax n Emotion MH. That pairing will allow you to fish more styles than going with a 6:3:1. You can frog, topwater, jig, flippin, lipeless cranks, shallow cranks, and swimbaits. 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted May 5, 2017 Super User Posted May 5, 2017 I, too, prefer 7.1:1 ratio for baitcasting, good all-around gear ratio (IMHO). Your setup thoughts look good otherwise, though I have no experience with Dobyns. I can recommend Bass Pro Carbonlites, St. Croix Premiere, among brands I use.... 1 Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 To piggy back of TH-Outdoors, I would recommend the 704 or 734 as well. Reason why is their rods fish 1 power lighter than advertised. Meaning the 703 or 733 is more like a Medium. The 704 or 734 is more like a MH even though it says Heavy. I have a Savvy 734 and it is an amazing all round rod. 1 Quote
