jimf Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 No. Illinois is same ... I haven't been out on a river all year. Going out tomorrow to a power plant cooling lake, did great last Friday and am curious to see what all of this rain did to the fish. 1 Quote

Bruce424 Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Dude I love stained or muddy water. Did some yesterday. Had a great day. Brings the fish close to cover or the bank. Fishing my favorite lures being jig, spinnerbait, and square bill. 1 Quote

WTnPuddleJumper Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 ive left clear water (because the bite was non existent) and went and caught a decent sack in the chocolate milk water numerous times. 1 Quote
jimf Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 The water clarity was normal, but the temp was down 4-5 degrees from last Friday and I think that made a difference. Today was "fair", everything between 1-2 pounds. I'm really waiting for the rivers to come down, I do enjoy fishing rivers and the water is just too high and fast, and I think it's going to be a while before they are in good shape. 1 Quote
Skunked again Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 I went. Threw most all the above mentioned baits. Nothing for me.. It was nice being the only one out there. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 4, 2017 Super User Posted May 4, 2017 The dirty water will bother the bass' gills and of course they will try to find the cleanest water they can find. If you can find cleaner water then that is where to fish. Use dark colored baits. Have fun and don't let a little rain cancel out your fishing trip. 2 Quote
jamey1e Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 I love when the water gets muddy around here. It really takes the guess work out of it for me. Big spinner baits, chartreuse square bills, and a black buzz bait fished around shallow grass works every time. 1 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted May 8, 2017 Super User Posted May 8, 2017 My rule of thumb is that they will shut down for a day or 2 when the water gets dirty but by day 3 they gotta eat!! That's when I go after them. I fish everything from gin clear to heavy stain and one thing is consistent.....sooner or later they have to eat. 1 Quote
