I am looking at getting a Fenwick Aetos (new version) spinning 7' mf action for shakey head.  I have a 7' ml HMG spinning rod that has the same lure rating as the new Aetos (1/8 - 5/8oz).  Just wondered if the rods have the same action/power?  The hmg is a great rod but too soft for shakey heads.  Didn't want to pull the trigger on this until I knew the Aetos has a little more backbone than the HMG ml.  Thanks

I have the 7' mf Aetos in the previous generation and it is just perfect for shakyheads (also tubes, grubs, sliders, senkos, etc.). I don't know how it compares to an HMG specifically, but it is definitely stouter than any typical ml. The lower-end fenwick lines usually have higher max lure ratings than the comparable models in the higher-end lines.

I can't give you a positive answer since I haven't been able to find the new style Aetos anywhere.  The original Aetos in a 7'M-F was rated down to 1/16oz as it had a soft tip, the new version is rated 1/8oz and also is rated for up to 14# line. I would be willing to bet money that the  medium power Aetos has more backbone than the HMG in ML and the tip is probably a little more stiff as well.
