Brett's_daddy Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 My favorite pond is pretty shallow, about 2 - 4ft. where I like to fish but it's a muddy bottom and very weedy with weeds within a foot of the surface and some lily pads too but the water is pretty clear. What baits/techniques would be best for this area? Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 28, 2017 Super User Posted April 28, 2017 Frogs, weedless spoon*, weedless soft plastics, swim jigs, buzz bait should keep you busy catching bass. Tom * Johnson Silver Minnow maybe the most overlooked lure for this type of cover. 4 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted April 28, 2017 Super User Posted April 28, 2017 The caffeine shad would be one of my top choices. Wally World is full of great options. the Hulla stick is also one that though be in your box along with the fat ika plastics that allow for skin Just now, NHBull said: The caffeine shad would be one of my top choices. Kidflex Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 Trick worms, senkos, weightless or light keel weighted swimbaits(keitech, grasspig, cane thumper), sluggo, fluke. Quote

ww3869 Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 I just fished a pond that sounds just like this. I caught fish on a fat ika rigged skirt up (weightless of course) along the edge of lily pads. I guess the ika was light enough to stay on top of the weeds. 1 Quote
hawgenvy Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 There's nothing like a frog for waddling freely over heavy weeds. Pause it in the pockets. The Gambler EZ Swimmer is a swimbait that's slippery enough to glide over and through heavy stuff. Rig it weedless and weightless. Use braid. Quote
wdp Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Weightless super fluke Weightless senko Horny toad or Ribbit Frog Weightless Ultra vibe Speed Worm or magnum speed craw Hollow bodied frog Work em over grass and then kill the bait & let it soak in the gaps between grass. 1 Quote

TX-Deluxe Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 If you are referring to the green mossy "green mush" stuff that instantly grabs the front of the eye of a hook or lure.... Weightless senko. Or keep your lures above this stuff. Sometimes you just have to pull the mush off after each cast. 1 Quote
dsqui Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Poppers and buzzbaits are a great option as well Quote
Super User RoLo Posted April 29, 2017 Super User Posted April 29, 2017 Two of the most weedless baits I've ever fished are a 'weedless spoon' (e.g. Johnson Silver Minnow) and a 'soft swimbait' (unweighted Big EZ). Both of these gems negotiate surface litter that would bog-down a Buzzbait. Since both are normally retrieved nonstop, they provide wider area coverage than stop-&-go baits like a hollow frog. It's become one of my go to topwater baits since I learned to walk to dog with one the last couple of yrs. It works so well walking it up to cover, then let it soak. Couple of extra spits & chugs, then BOOM! Quote

No, the stuff I'm talking about is the tall stringy stuff...not the mat-type like this. Quote
