Looking for suggestions on where to catch or buy wild golden shiners in the jacksonville area. Plenty of farm raised at the bait shops but looking for wild. Wanting to try them out in the local retention ponds. Also open to new fishing partners in the area to pond hop with. Thanks.

Welcome to bass resource.

St Augustine rd fish management area is full of shiners but its illegal to throw a cast net there.I catch em with a tiny hook with a small bread ball.Chum them first. There is a bait store ( arlington bait and tackle ) in town and country shopping center on University.( I think there still open)

There are some in mandarin parks pond.  Theres another small pond I know of,but a security guard will run you off.

What part of town do you live in??

Haven't been out there myself. Looks kind of weedy.

Anyone else have any good spots around the area to catch wild shiners? I pull the boat down to Jacksonville once or twice a year and need a place to load up on shiners to go to Rodman Reservoir. St. Augustine rd. was a great place. I had about 20 until a big old bass came and chased them all off... switched tactics and caught him!

Any help would be much appreciated!
