Jeff moore Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 I live in north mo and the blue gill bite is on I bought two dozen night crawlers put on a small hook and a bobber set at about two feet and caught the heck out of them I think if your going to have success fishing you have to have a bobber I just can't catch fish with out them Quote
Super User Darren. Posted April 28, 2017 Super User Posted April 28, 2017 Welcome aboard, Jeff. Certainly live crawlers work well for bluegill, as do maggots and other squirmy critters. They'll catch bass, too! You can use a float with artificial bait, too, like a worm rigged wacky style, under a float. Does work well. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted May 2, 2017 Super User Posted May 2, 2017 Try a flyrod and tiny rubber legged poppers , I've had a lot of success that way . 1 Quote
Super User RoLo Posted May 2, 2017 Super User Posted May 2, 2017 Bluegills are 'suckers' for poppers In the summertime, move up on the shoreline and cast into every patch of shade. The little buggers wise up quickly though, but if you keep moving slowly along the shoreline, you'll likely get a strike on every cast. Roger Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 2, 2017 Super User Posted May 2, 2017 Fly rod with slow sinking spiders is the ticket for me. As a matter of fact i may need to go try it out tomorrow afternoon 1 Quote
CoBass Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 My favorite way to catch bluegill and crappie is a trout magnet hung a few feet below a bobber. Nothing brings the little kid in me out like watching a bobber slide under the surface. Bass are still my favorite fish to target, but I always bring an ultralite rod with me for panfish just in case the bass aren't cooperating. Quote
