IndianaFinesse Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Is that question really worth a thread? 2 Quote

Super User Paul Roberts Posted April 29, 2017 Super User Posted April 29, 2017 Go! If you are free to pick your days, then you have that luxury. Otherwise... Go! If you are uncomfortable it's easier to lose heart and not put the effort in to find biters. You may have to adjust expectations some. Ok with putting in a tough day and not catching? If not, it might be a good day for honey-do's. But you may also put something together that will change your outlook on cold days forever. Quote

Bucky205 Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 I'm retired military which leaves me a lot of time to fish, if I were only able to fish one or two days a week I would fish every day I could. Severe thunderstorms and hunting sometimes gets in the way of my fishing, but not much else. 1 Quote

I got beat up taking my kayak out. Was cold and too windy. Ended up bending my paddle fighting the wind and current while trying to get out of a tree. Only managed one small fish and zero other bites. A bad day fishing beats a good day doing anything else. Quote

However, when the rain hit skin, it felt like ice. So I don't know if it was totally worth it, although it was nice to take the casting drug. Its better to try and not succeed than to not try at all, you know? 1 Quote

Yeah, the problem was the amount of bad conditions stacked onto one another. I left my bottom contact rod at home because it was too windy for bottom baits and then, since it was sunny the previous three weeks, the weeds were so thick I could only throw swim jigs. I also didn't have any super bright trailers so I went with blue. Water was pitch black with sediment by the way. The other lake I tried would've worked but the other guy I was with didn't want to fish it so we went to the black lake. Quote

Some of my biggest bass have been on days similar to yours, on swimbaits. Plus there is some appeal to getting out on the water in tough conditions, its always a grind, but definitely worth it. Quote

There are some occasions where it's not. I don't regret going out last week on my afternoon off but it was a bad experience. I was close to going over in my kayak and bent my paddle so not great. jimf Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 It's definitely not always worth it. I don't mind cold, and I don't mind wind, and I don't mind rain ... but put 2 of those 3 together and I'll probably take a pass, and put 3 together and I would rather do just about anything rather than go fishing in that. In response to the argument that the fish will be biting in those conditions, my response is "I don't care". 1 Quote
