flg2010 Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 So I found a way to get this combo for around $140, new ($40 buck savings), The rod and reel seem light weight and had decent reviews. I was able to touch and feel the combo at a shop: Rod - Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0, 6 foot 6 inch medium light. Reel - Shimano Sahara 4000 XG. If I get it I will put 10 pound test mono on it. I don't tend to spend a lot of rods and reels so anything above $200 is not (in my opinion) worth it since I'm not an amateur or a pro.. I am causal/weekend fishing person. I need to replace my primary reel which after a few years now of heavy use is broken (drag is not functioning). I decided to replace both rod/reel. I like to have two rods/reels with me just in case or if I want to fish power bait stuff on one and lures on the other. - Will this combo work for lure bass fishing (mostly rock bass and smallmouth) - Any bad things about either rod or reel? - With moderate use but regular oiling and maintenance should I expect 2 years out of it? Super User lmbfisherman Posted April 27, 2017 Super User Posted April 27, 2017 It will work, as for longevity that reel will normally last far beyond 2 years, more like a 10+. Quote

If i cant get 2yrs use out of a reel, that brand is trash to me. Youll be fine. Although i dont generally use that big of reel. With 10pd line you could use a 2500 size reel. If you can get a 2500 at the same savings that what id do. But if not its fine to. i meant 40 bucks is 40 bucks Quote
Falkus Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 I would pick a 2500 size over that reel if you can Its not going to feel light with that reel on it, Its gotta be a TANK Feeling. all my reels are in 2500 size or less with 10/15 lbs braid line. It works just great. Quote
flg2010 Posted April 27, 2017 Author Posted April 27, 2017 I am going to go with the 2500 .. thanks guys.. this helps.. I was concerned about going with brands I never bought before.. Will test this out tomorrow. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted April 27, 2017 Super User Posted April 27, 2017 If you are not purchasing a "combo', but instead are buying the reel and rod then you could consider the same rod but look at a Pflueger President in the 6935 size. My wife and I are using some of those and several are a decade old and they get lots of use. A president reel will cost about $60 1 Quote
5fishlimit Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 I concur on the President. I have several other expensive spinning reels, but my President get the most work. Quote
