lilbuddy Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 I tried searching the forum and not one thread came up about "***"...I'm sure many of you may have seen them advertise on facebook... At any rate they were running a promo so I figured I would try them out....50%off so I picked up a crius reel for $65... Here's my question/comment.... My other casting reels consist of abu, a couple from BPS (bionic) and a couple of lews tournament mb... With all those reels I've never had big backlash issues.... Now in all fairness I've only used the *** twice and both times it was just running over to a pond for about 30 minutes....I cant seem to get this thing dialed in... Does anyone have experience with these reels? I think I may have just thrown 65 bucks away but hey its not the end of the world. BTW the reel looks very nice...I have it on a #8 7'6 blackout Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted April 26, 2017 Super User Posted April 26, 2017 I am not familiar with their reels, but here are some thoughts. What rod do you have it on? What is the lure rating on the rod? What is the weight of the lure you are testing it out with? Lets say you have it on a 7 ft medium heavy fast action rod. If the rod calls for 1/4 to 3/4 I would practice throwing something around a 1/2 texas rigged worm of 1/2 ounce spinnerbait, even a 1/2 ounce jig. Next what line did you spool it with. I would start out testing it with a line that has little memory like a 14 pound Stren Mono, 12 pound P Line FloroClear or 30 pound Power Pro braid. I love to use lines like 10 or 12 pound P LIne CXX but it has too much memory to learn a new reel with. Lines like Abrazx and other Fluorocarbon lines also cause enough trouble that you could be fighting the line more than the reel. If you loaded it with straight braid then it could be slipping on the reel;s arbor, Spool the reel part way with mono then the braid. Be sure you spooled the line under good steady tension. The reel may need its spool tension run a bit tighter than some other models, maybe the opposite! You will need to experiment. Is this a dual braking reel or strictly a magnetic or centrifugal braking reel? Perhaps adjusting that will help. Quote

It is a dual braking system....I played with both brakes and in order to get it to not backlash I have to put 3 out of the 4 internal brakes in the "in position" and the other brake is cranked down to a slow fall on my lure.....I planned on using this reel for pitching and flipping..... I've sent the company an email asking them about best practices. I'll see if I hear anything back. Quote

Look into how to set up a Kastking so it won't backlash. Lot of info on this board. Thanks... It may be me, but I have no issues with my other reels. I'll take a look and see what info I can find. Super User fishnkamp Posted April 26, 2017 Super User Posted April 26, 2017 I see the rod you are using. I rates for 3/8 to 1 1/4. So try casting a 3/4 ounce jig with a trailer like a pit boss. That would be a bait I might cast and pitch. It also should be about in the middle of the rod's specs. Quote
lilbuddy Posted April 26, 2017 Author Posted April 26, 2017 Yep...those are the specs...I normally dont have issues with that...I was just tossing a weightless dbomb....I'll put a weight on it and try again tonight. Quote

I would also check out what LowRange advised. They are the same platform. Quote
