Hi I'm needing some help I am confused here .. I'm sending back my legend bass tournament rod and getting a lengend extreme rod now let me start by saying I love fishing jigs and Texas rigs 1/2 ounce to 3/4 ounce jigs and 1/4 size tungsten weights on senko worms and creature baits I also like to fish 1/2 ounce 3/4 size spinnerbaits ! So my other rod was a 7'1 legend bass tournament rod medium heavy fast action here's where I get lost with these legend extreme rods I wanted a longer rod than a 7'1 so I looked at the 7'6 MH extreme and it's weight first off confused me it said 3/8 - 1 1/4 ... confused at that and it's a moderate fast action rod now I'd love that rod but is that a jig fishing and Texas rig rod really ..? My second choice was the extreme 7'1 MH but again it's a xfast action rod and the weight again makes no sense it's says 1/4 3/4 so sure fits my weight category I guess but the thing that gets me is why is a longer rod with a stiffer tip have less weight than a 7' foot medium heavy extreme !? That rods weight says 3/8-1ounce ... so I'm really confused here someone help let me hear what you guys think ! I even considered the 7'4 H fast action rod the weight is 3/8 - 1 1/2 again confusing ... help please oh and this is a casting rod by the way lol

The fast, x fast and mod fast actions make the casting weights different. A MH XF road has a lighter tip than the MH F, but the same power further down the blank, so it will cast lighter baits. The MH MF blank will cast a heavier bait as the tip is relatively stiffer. There isn't a direct equivalent to your rod that's longer in the  legend elite or extreme series. The only one that's a bit longer is the 7'3" legend tournament "carolina rig".  Personally, I'd stick with what you've got already.

I thought xfast and fast are the stiffer stout rods ?

Well, yes and no. If you want to throw a 1/2 oz then an x fast rod will have a stiffer butt relative to the tip than a mod fast, but they will have a different power rating because of that. The power and the action are different. An XF heavy and a mod fast medium might have the same casting weights, but the XF will have much more power in the butt, hence the power rating.

Well I guess what I'm asking is what people think the best rod from the legend extreme series of rods would best suite my fishing also forgot to mention I live in Michigan so I don't mess with braid usually I fish 17-20lb floro usually fishing laydowns submerged trees bushes and stumpy bottoms also weeds I like to fish open water with my jigs and Texas rigs as well so I just don't know what rod to choose out of those three legend extremes the 7'1 MH xfast or the 7'4 H fast action or the 7'6 MH moderate fast action I would love the 7'6 but it Dosent seem like a Texas rig rod or a jig rod cause I thought moderate fast were pretty much crankbait rods

Extra fast rods will have a lighter max rating due to the bend being closer to the tip. A fast action will start loading a little further down and a moderate bends toward the middle. the weak spot on most rods are where the bend starts(action). Loading up on an extra fast rod with heavy weights is not desirable as the top section takes most the weight instead of distributing down the blank. For the weights your throwing, I'd opt for the 7'4" H. I hate using 3/4oz with med/hvy rods (fast, xfast or moderate).

I flip 3/4 oz jigs on the 7'11 H moderate fast Extreme.  It's amazing (except St Croix needs to add an extra stripper guide at the bottom).  I also have a 7'0 mh fast Extreme.  I don't like throwing jigs over 1/2oz on it but it would definitely work for your spinnerbaits and t-rigged plastics.  I often use mine to skip docks with a 1/4 to 1/2oz jig.  The 7'6 mhmf is actually meant for light flipping/pitching, so yes, it would be fine for jigs.  I have the same spec rod in the Rage line.

Yea I was thinking the 7'4 H or the 7'6 mh hopefully I can't get away with using Texas rigged creature baits and worms on biggers weights

You definitely can with either of those rods.

Not that this helps your current situation but I think G. Loomis fills in the gaps better with more choices of in between sizes.

St. Croix > G Loomis ;)

Are you set on the extreme? I would suggest the the New Elite if you are not set on the extreme. I would lean towards the 7'4" HF just because you said you don't use braid.

I've always wondered why X-fast tips don't do well with heavier lures. That makes sense though! X-fast rods bend near the relatively weak tip section, compared to mod-fast rods, which bend pretty deep into the rod's "backbone".

Action has nothing to do with the stiffness or lack there if of the tip. There may or may not be a correlation in a given line. It's up to the maker.

Action or power?

So i just had a rod built on a 7'4" avid blank in HF and i think that if your into jigs and frogs and plan to throw small swimbaits, the 74h might be the right choice.  I fish jigs and light punching on my LE70mhf all the time.  If i had no other high end rods i would choose my LE70mhf every time.  That is the rod that just does it for me when jig fishing.  The blank is the same on the LE as it is on the extreme but it has a full cork handle.  The 76mhmf is basicaly a flipping stick which has tons of power but is designed to stay loaded when pulling up against the mat.  I think your best bet would be the LE70mhf but it will not be longer.  ST croix does not do a lot of random sizes like what has become so popular.
