How long till line gets bad?

Hopefully a simple question but how long will spools of line stay good? With the BOGO going on for p-line tactical I was thinking of picking some up but also just purchased some sniper. Will the tactical stay good awhile if I go ahead and get it?

truth be told, they fish 6 days a week

 

I don't want to leave it on my reels for a lengthy amount of time, I want to leave it NIB and just keep it somewhere without having to worry about it getting bad. I do agree though, nearly all my rods have braid and I dont change until I run out of line...

Braided polyethylene is kite-string that wears like iron and lasts indefinitely.

Once you load your spool with braided line you've embarked on a long-term contract.

You will not have to replace your fishing line until cumulative break-offs and cumulative knots from hell

have finally taken the spool level too far below the spool lip.

This is true but after my braid starts to get use and shows indication of fray i take it off and turn it around.  I try to tie knots that dont waste a lot and i dont brake off hardly ever so i only loose line as i retie.  I fish a lot and try to maximize the life of my lines.

 

Flouro lasts forever as it is not effected by the sun like mono, but after a while it starts to coil badly and starts handling badly.  I buy good line so its may go two seasons before i swap it out.

 

Mono/copoly-  i dont fish this a bunch but my lures cost way to much to risk sun damaged line so i go a month or two and off with the old and on with the new.

I have a few old spools of Trilene XL that is no longer useable. It's been kept in a closet in my house. It is now very brittle and does not even come off the spool. I can break it with a gentle tug. I've used it for backing but I'd never trust it as a main line.

I am still using BPS 20lb mono from a jumbo spool I bought 15 years ago.  It hangs on my peg board in the original box above my fishing work bench in our laundry room.  It is only one reel, so even with an annual line change it has lasted a long time.

I have a couple spools of Berkley Big Game that are over 10 years old, and the line looks and feels brand new. Two of my reels are spooled up with it this season and I used it all last year and didn't have an issue. They've been stored in a closet the whole time.

Fluoro will last a long time. I have it on some reels that are 3-4 seasons old and not one issue.
