I use a SV105 for my finesse stuff.  If i don't bring a spinning rod I use it to throw my 1/16 oz ned rigs with out issues.

The 105 would be a good choice. I was throwing a 1/16 tex-style rigged 2.8" Keitech on mine with 10lb. fluoro without issues. I'm sure it could handle a 3/16-1/4oz popper without issue.

On the Shimano side, I'd say the Curado 70, Aldebaran, or Stile would be a good choice depending on your budget. My Stile will sling a 3/16oz. Shad Rap on a Medium cranking rod a pretty fair distance, so it should throw a popper that has no bill without issue.

Wut about an SOL or Chronarch 50MG?

I don't know how light you plan on going but either should work with a reasonable weight.  I've never used a 50MG, but the Sol will do 1/4 oz. easily.  I've never tried less than that...yet...with mine.  I use an Airy Red and PXL for 1/8 oz.  I use TD-Z 105Hs and gold Carbonlites for 3/16 oz.  Both will toss that  weight a good distance.

I don't have the Pro Max Maxximus Rednekcus mentions, but I have Black Max 1600Cs.  Not the tightest reel, but I have cast a small fluke on an unweighted hook directly into a strong wind with excellent results.  I keep wanting to try one of them with lighter weights, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Some of the long time baitcast users on here don't need a finesse reel for light weights, but I do.  I may be an old fart, but I am relatively a newbie when it comes to baitcast reels.

So what you guys are saying is you are using SV 105 103s to cast small weightless plastics?

Are there BC rods under medium power that I have over looked or are those reels really that good?

My complaint with spinning...even with a nice ML fast rod is it just isn't as sensitive as a BC setup

Is it the transfer if vibration through the reel that isn't as good?

Curado 70 is a solid choice. I'm throwing weightless trick worms, 1/8 ounce rattletraps and poppers with and getting as good of distance as I was from my spinning setups.

Even when throwing into wind, I'm getting as good of distance as I was with the spinning setup. Leaving all four breaks on and adjusting the dial to 4.5. Not backlashing.

im almost tempted to give up the spinning rod altogether now that I can use this reel for the light line techniques and not have to deal with wind knots.

sv105 would be perfect, was throwing the 1/15oz shroomz head ned rigs on mine last night.

Iirc there are some rods in the dobyns and Phenix lineup that will cast light baits. I used a recon 2 682 paired with a curado 51e that had an avail 915 spool to throw 1/16 jigs to peacock bass before the bfs bug wore off. I used 10/2 braid with 6lb Floroclear Leader.

In the end, I'm more efficient and accurate with spinning gear and don't have to fuss with backlashes and brakes though there is something about light baits and casting reels that kinda makes me want to get back into it...

I liked the sv105 enouh to buy a second one.  It's a great reel and can go from casting a 1/2oz lipless to a 1/6oz inline spinner with just a brake adjustment.

I will 4th or 5th the Daiwa Alphas SV 105. Love it for light jerkbaits and 1/4 oz topwater pop-r style baits.

I built my own on a 73 ML point blank rod.  Wonderful blank for poppers and small plastics.  Tackle warehouse should have some ML rod blanks that should fit the bill

I have the sv105 I use for small cranks/jerks on a MajorCraft ML rod;

It will cast a little below it's rating, I can fling a 1/6oz inline spinner with ease and it will cast right up to a 1/2oz RES, but it is a little weak for ripping it through anything more than light grass.
