ThePolkFolk Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Looking to maybe trade in my .45 XDS and M&P 9c to get a pocket gun in the same caliber as my G19. The G43 is nice but man that SIG is something else. Anyone have any experience on it and can give a run down on the pros and cons? My top criteria is reliability. Thanks, Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted April 24, 2017 Super User Posted April 24, 2017 If you want a nice little pocket toy that won't require you to sell/trade anything away, check out the new LCP II. I got one last week and it's worked great for me so far. They can be easily had for under $300 out the door. 1 Quote
ThePolkFolk Posted April 24, 2017 Author Posted April 24, 2017 True, @fishballer06. That would also help me save up for the new Mini 30 ranch... How's the trigger on that thing? I remember I wasn't too fond of the one on the first LCP. Sights the same as well? Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 25, 2017 Super User Posted April 25, 2017 A good friend of mine just bought a P938. I shot it quite a bit during our last range session. My impressions: Cons first: It's VERY VERY small, too small for my big mitts. Something to consider if you have large hands. Even with the extended mag in it, I found it very hard to hold on to...it basically vanished into the palm of my hand. I found it to be very snappy with just 115 grain ball plinking ammo, and border line undesirable with stouter self defense loads. It's heavy for what it is, too heavy for pocket carry IMHO The tiny little thumb safety was stiff and difficult to manipulate with my gorilla fingers. Take down was semi easy, getting the slide stop/take down pin out was a little tricky......reassembly was a little challenging trying to get the barrel link lined up with the takedown pin/slide stop and you have to do it under spring tension with no ability to lock it open to assist you while you try to insert the pin. Think of taking down a mini 1911, but no where near as easy and effortless as a true 1911 The are kinda pricey for a small pistol. Pros: It's a SIG, and looked, felt, and seemed very well made. It also functioned flawlessly with a broad range of ammo. It's got a very nice trigger. Much better than my EDC (A S&W Shield 9mm) Despite being so small and snappy, I shot it well. Those are just my thoughts on it.....YMMV Quote

I watched a few YouTube video's during my research and whenever I heard everyone raving how they improved the trigger I knew it seemed like a good buy. The old trigger was straight double action. The new trigger is described as 3/4 cocked single action and the trigger pull is now around 6 pounds. The sites are still milled into the slide, but they're a little bigger than the previous model. Throw a little nail polish paint on the front site and it's good. Bear in mind, this isn't a range gun, so in the event of the need to use it, you probably won't be using the sites anyway. 2 Quote

Super User fishballer06 Posted April 25, 2017 Super User Posted April 25, 2017 Another nice feature - the slide now locks back on the final round. 1 Quote
ThePolkFolk Posted April 25, 2017 Author Posted April 25, 2017 Something that slipped my mind, but that was definitely a turn off of the first LCP. Quote
Bucky205 Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 I carry either a Ruger LC9S Pro, or a Glock 23 depending on what I'm wearing. The Glock is my favorite. What I don't like about the LC9S is having to sling shot the slide when reloading, and the accuracy is sub par to the Glock. The LC9S does conceal better than the Glock in light clothing. With the LC9S even in shorts and a T-shirt you have an invisible 9mm, and it is very affordable. 1 Quote
I.rar Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 I played with the pocket sigs at the lgs some time back and the trigger was great but the manual of arms threw me off. I'm used to carrying striker fired (m&p shield and 9c) and didn't feel comfortable cocked and locked. I had a lcp custom and traded it to get my shield back because I felt more comfortable drawing from the hip than from the pocket. It was a great gun and the wider trigger felt much better than that plastic thing they had in the original version. Haven't tried the lcp 2 but I would give them a good look before writing them off. Note that the trigger reset is 2 clicks and very loooonngg. Imo. 1 Quote

There's a few holster companies making nice little IWB holsters for the LCP too. Check out Vedder Holsters and Windhill Holsters. I'm not saying the LCP II is the perfect pocket sized gun, but I'm really impressed with mine. I've shot the 938 and I did not like the super long double action trigger pull. I couldn't hit anything with it. I'm not too bad with my PX4 Storm or 686 in double action, but that 938 pull was very hard for me to shoot. 1 Quote
