gall Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Even though they're a dime a dozen I had a special heddon baby torpedo that had custom props new trebles including feather few little accent colors this thing was a smallmouth killer I remember one day before the rains came in i was a local park and conditions were perfect this old timer was watching me literally catch 8 in 8 cast all back to back he was going crazy this guy came down and was fishing from the boat ramp while I was Ib the water stock regular size torpedo in leopard frog not a single bits the old timer was ecstatic telling him what he saw mine do fast forward to last June went out when I got off work at about 530am fishing it in front of a large eddy 2 20" smallmouth after I released the last fish and cast back our got blown up and as I set the hook saw the markings of the infamous toothy menace before I could do anything my line went slack I spent 5 days hunting the musky and saw him in time with it still hooked in his mouth and I can't count how many times I took a dive to get a lute back I keep goggles and flippers on my tackle bag I leave on the shore when I'm wading 1 Quote
onetime Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Last weekend I lost two original Xcalibur XRK 50 One Knockers, rayburn red, consecutive casts, FML 2 Quote
SJMarshall34 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Hated losing this Bill Dance Fat A last week. The log it was stuck in was just a bit too deep, and there was a huge water moccasin lurking... 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted June 16, 2017 Super User Posted June 16, 2017 Brand new titanium Terminator spinner bait ($9.99 at Cabela's). 5th cast, nice bass. Very next cast, slimy ol' pike. At first I thought it was a bigger bass but then I saw it surface a ways out. Not a very big one but completely ENGULFED most of the lure. Sure enough the thing goes on a sideways jolt and the line cuts right off in its teeth. I hate pike 2 Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 Fed my last 5xd to an easy 50+ pound flathead this morning, and he didn't give it back... 1 Quote

A-Jay You should use that for catfish bait. I heard they love bluegill heads ???. But in all seriousness, thoughts and prayers, sorry for your loss. Recently I managed to recover it when my spoon caught the olf line it was attached to at the same fishing hole on the Walkill. I didn't catch any fish that trip but I managed to get my lure back and thats really all that matters since it was one of my favorites. If you love something, let it go. If it comes back, change the skirt on that son of a gun, tie her back on, and get to fishin'. 2 Quote
bma3 Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Watched a brand new spinnerbait sail away on the first cast of the day because of a backlash... Quote
Rob213 Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Lost my favorite creek fishing crankbait. About 1.5in, pulled bass, green sunfish, longear, and occasionally catfish. Been looking for replacement but don't know brand or anything (anyone know what its called?) Quote

Only found it ebay for $13 so far ? Probably no longer in production. I hate to tell you this, but $13 is a pretty median price for a crankbait anymore, maybe not for a bomber, but just in general. I'd buy several if they're a magic bait for you, or try a still in production Fat A color and see if it works as well or maybe better. Quote
gilkeybr Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Decided I would try DS fishing for the first time this weekend. Got a bite on the second cast. Lost my first tungsten DS weight on the second cast... I run straight 30lb braid on all my hardbaits, in an attempt to avoid losing them. Did snap the line on a backlashed cast last week with my brand new Pompadour Jr. Fortunately there was still about 10 yards of line attached to the lure and was able to cast out with a shallow diver and snag the remaining line. Fishing top water often makes lure recovery a bit less dramatic! Quote
d-camarena Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Rip my berkley prank. First cast, hooked into a tree pounder. Didnt even touch the water 1 Quote
thomas15 Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 I am convinced that the main reason I don't catch as many fish as most is due to the lost lure preventative measures that I instinctively put in place. I simply hate to loose any tackle. Anyway, I have a favorite lure, It's a $2.00 Walmart flw brand med/shallow diving crank green sparkles on top, cream underside. Caught my first LMB on it about 20 years ago, numerous others since and a lot of chain pickrell. Replaced the hooks several times. It has been snagged on submerged logs numerous times and once it was snagged on a limb dangling just out of reach but in plain view, I spent 2 hours getting it back. So about two years ago I took it out of service and placed it on display in a china closet. I'm a bit tardy getting started this season but I've decided to take more chances this year in the hopes that it will result in more fish. Quote
