Is spooling up reels with new line better than landing fish? Or watching the topwater action? Sorry I just had to go there lol.

 

the excitement for us growing up was the night before opening day of trout season. Scrambling to clean the tackle box, respool the reels. Back then we fished for bass once or twice a year. But once I was hooked on bass fishing. What trout? Forget about it.

My lakes are heavy populated with big bass...I live in Texas...fishing is superb here. Catching them is the easy part...knowing you have the right tackle is what really disturbs me. We stock trout around d here but only for kid derbys and of course...to feed our big bass. Sorry...but if you're not in Texas...you should know it's pretty hard to compare a trout to these monsters....sorry...but I went there.

I don't chase trout much, but I have seen 3 lb small mouth in the stomachs of lakers.

I wouldn't say "love" but it's very satisfying know everything is cocked, licked, & ready to rock!

Looks over filled, above the spool rim! You can let out 75 yards or so run it behind your boat and reel the line back on and it should tighten up. Daiwa rod, Lews reel and Shimano reel cover....

Fresh line gives you confidence!

Lol, and I was just about to say not overfilled - looks about perfect to me  I like to fill them to the brim. As long as the line doesn't spool over onto the gold rim edge, you're fine. You'll know on the first few casts if you need to remove a little.

I think it may be ever so slightly over full based on the picture only. But I agree with WRB if you let it out and get a nice smooth fresh reinstal it will probably be perfect. Again based on the picture. It may be fine just as it is if I was standing there holding it. Or better yet just ship it to me and I will test it for you.

That's a beautiful looking brown trout for being in the lake. Nice fish!

That was the year it was so dry, they couldn't get into the tribs.  There were thousands of them in the first 20' of water.  Many were even making redds near the beach and spawning right in the lake.  You could catch largemouth, smallmouth, browns, steel, cocho, king, or a drum on any cast.

28 lbs 12oz Brown trout was caught in the river maybe 200 yards from my house. Obviously they all don't get this big certainly none that ive ever caught but I've seen and caught some large trout. The state record rainbow in my state is 18lbs.
